The Waving Song
The Waving Song has been a part of OSU since the 1940's. Fans stand and do the familiar one arm wave following a goal in football or a victory in other sports. The tradition came somewhat accidentally out of a theatrical production in the 1940's. While scouting at Columbia University for a play, the department head saw a play called "Red Mill"which contained the song "New York, New York". Still humming the tune as they prepared for the Oklahoma presentation, the director had an epiphany and created a modification of the song with OAMC as the fill in name. It was a huge hit and a tradition was born.
America's Greatest Homecoming
The Walk
The night before football games, the entire team stays at the Atherton Hotel in the Student Union. Two hours and fifteen minutes before the game, the team takes the 'walk'. They walk together down Hester Street to Boone Pickens Stadium. The Coach leads the spirited parade. They are followed ed by the OSU Marching band, the spirit squad and, of course, the players. Fans line the road at the stadium and cheer their Cowboys on to victory. This is a favorite ritual for the fans as well as everyone involved with the game. It creates an exciting and empowering presentation and entrance into the stadium. .
