Stronger Together

It is amazing how much you can accomplish when it doesn't matter who gets the credit.

Class Coverage

REMINDER: Please make sure students are adequately supervised at all times! Teachers MUST be in their classrooms by 8:20am. Students should not be lined up in the hallway or in a vacant classroom waiting for their teacher.

Calendar Update

2nd Annual Beach Week

Thank you to everyone who helped make Beach Week a hit! What a fun tradition at DCES!

Georgia School Personnel Survey

The Georgia School Personnel Survey (GSPS) is modeled after the student survey and includes 31 questions. The GSPS is for all staff (certified and classified) who work at least 50 percent of the day in the school. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Data results from the Georgia School Personnel Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online.

The results of this survey are a part of our School Climate Star rating included in our CCRPI score.

Georgia School Personnel Survey:

From Patty:

Thank you all for your flexibility and for working with Paula on your schedule for DA's. I know this go around we did things a little differently, and we have learned a lot quickly which is a good thing. If you have any questions or concerns about when you can test on line, please swing by and touch base with Paula-she is doing an awesome job trouble shooting and problem solving. Remember also that you can use your classroom computers for these assessments.

ACCESS is still moving right along. With it moving to online this year, it has in some ways been much easier/quicker....and honestly in some ways not so much. As it is the first year for on-line we knew to expect some growing pains, but Laura and Jo have worked hard and moved on past the hiccups. I really appreciate how flexible and understanding everyone has been in regards to the ESOL schedule as well as when we have had to "bump" or move someone out of the lab.

I am not super great at phrasing sentiment so be patient with me for a minute. I want you all to know how very much I appreciate each and every one of you, and the hard work everyone on this staff does. It's crazy to think that I have only been here a little over a year and a half when it feels so much longer because we operate as such a family here! I truly am incredibly thankful and blessed to be part of the DCES family. I brag about all of you all the time to my friends and colleagues around the county because this is such an incredible place to work.

From Erline:

Please, please, please remember to complete the SST referral form that Sue sends each week with the schedule. This is always the most UPDATED form to use and having it prior to the meeting helps make better use of the meeting time.

Early Release

Conferences are next week. There are no SST meetings scheduled during conference week.

Please make sure if you are considering retention for any student and you haven't shared that concern yet with parents, that you do so during this meeting. Remind them that final decisions will not happen until May, but you want to make sure they are aware that retention is something you've considered.

Please do not complete your conference participation form until you have held your very last meeting. If that happens after the deadline, just send me an email.

Due to Media Inventory during Early Release (Wed and Thurs), the Media Center will be closed to student circulation.

After School Tutoring

Tutors and teachers, now is a great time to touch base if you haven't already done so with each other. We are a little over the half way mark of this last session, and having this information to share with parents during your conferences would be beneficial.

Safety and Security

We had many "commendable" comments on our safety and security review. Among them were:

There are well thought out plans in place for students who need to reenter the building from the detached gym during the school day.

Faculty and staff understood that in a crisis situation placing the school on Lockdown status does not require an administrator’s approval.

All visitors including GCPS employees are subject to all regular visitor procedures.

The school’s Crisis Management Plan includes information regarding faculty and staff duties and responsibilities to monitor visitors and challenge anyone not displaying a visitor badge.

The school’s Parent/Student Handbook has clear expectations explained regarding visitor policies and procedures requiring all visitors to sign-in.

The school has utilized a formal training program, Project S.A.V.E. for numerous staff to be trained in dealing with sudden cardiac arrest.

And many more! Additionally there is a long list of suggestions that we will be working together with our SRO to review and address. Thank you for all you do to keep our school safe!
