Respect
Many students today come to school with very little training on how to treat one another with respect. We find ourselves having to teach behaviors and attitudes that used to be modeled and taught in the home. The good news is that children can be taught! I have emailed you a short 2-minute video (SMORE does not support Teaching Channel videos) that discusses two wonderful points: the power of calling one another by name and the use of discussion stems. My students used similar discussion stems ("accountability stems" in the video) when they held discussions in their Book Club (literature circle). Both of these strategies will help students achieve respectful discourse in the classroom. If you want the discussion stems I used, I am sure I can locate them on a flash drive. Check Pinterest as well. I have added below a classic video that takes me back to a time many of you will not remember. Enjoy!

Procedures for Rotation
Clear procedures must be in place for work station rotations so that little time is needed for students to know where they are going. Mrs. Briley posted the rotation on the white board.

Schedule, Lesson Plan, and Instructional Delivery Alignment
Whenever any observer comes to your classroom, it is important that your schedule, lesson plans and instruction are aligned. Update your schedule or lesson plans if they change.
Board Members on Campus Wednesday & Library Classes go to PE!
Due to the LISD Board Meeting and luncheon held in the JMQ Libary and Outdoor Patio on Wednesday, all library classes will go to the Gym. Once the meeting adjourns, we will notify you so that library classes might resume. If your class misses its checkout time, arrange an appt. for your class during Mrs. Whatley's planning time (2:00 - 2:45) to bring your class to the library for a quick check-in or check-out of books. on Wednesday or Thursday afternoons. You will need to remain with your class to help make this a quick book return and check-out.
