Hi-lites week of December 7th, 2015
Second Week of Advent!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It also reminded me of the upcoming Highland Catholic School Christmas Show, as we gather in a sacred space and encourage our students to make a joyful noise and glorify the Lord. Students will be performing at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17th.
I can hardly wait to see what the students have in store for us.
Reminder: School begins at 9 .m. on Friday, Dec. 18th. Extra Innings is available beginning at 7 a.m. Our Christmas break begins at 2:50 p.m. on the 18th.
Enjoy the Season!
A group of fifth and sixth grade students participated in the Creativity Festival sponsored by Success Beyond the Classroom.
Students were challenged to think outside the box as they tackled classes such as Squid Dissection, Personal Narratives, Nature CSI, Think Outside the Ellipse, Creating Dance, Be a Veterinarian and more.
The day was full of fun and new experiences!
Highland Catholic Facebook Groups
Did you know that each grade has its own private Facebook group exclusively for parents? This is a great way to make group announcements, promote events, plan fun for a specific grade, share field trip pictures, etc.
All parents are invited to join for each grade they have current students. To join, simply search for the Facebook group by the year your child will complete 8th grade at Hi-C, then ask to join the group. You will be authenticated through the Hi-C directory, so each group is truly only for parents of that grade level.
Use this guide to request admittance to the correct group:

Super 8th Graders
Thanks to the following 8th graders, who volunteered to help with the Advent mailing for Lumen Christi Catholic Community: Megan, Olivia E., Ella, Gus, Miquel, Maggie, Rosa. Helen, Chris, Maxx, Daniel and Claire. It is wonderful for our students to support the work of the Church. Thank you.
Our sympathy goes out to the families who lost a loved one over the Thanksgiving break. Prayers to Ms. Sarah Broos on the death of her maternal Grandmother, Yvonne Schauer on the death of her Mother and to the Felion Family at the death of Grace, who was a wonderful HiC Mom and volunteer. May they rest in Peace.
Another Veteran's Letter to our 5th Graders
Thank you very much for your wonderful Veterans Day letter you sent me!
I am so proud that you and your classmates are learning about veterans and how much they gave and are still giving to our great country.
I pray everyday for our Veterans and their families.
I am going to show your letter to all my military friends and your letter will be at our house for all our family to see at Thanksgiving. We can all be thankful for our Veterans Service.
You and your classmates have made this old soldier very proud.
Grandma and I love you and will see you soon.
Turkey Trot Coloring Contest Winners
The following students were the grade level winners and received a Menche’s gift card as a special treat: Kindergarten/Leo, 1st/Joey, 2nd/Gavin, 3rd/Tea, 4th/Charlotte and 5th/Anna.
This warm weather can't last forever.
Just a reminder that Highland Catholic School announces any late starts or school closings through WCCO radio, television, and website. I believe you can register at CBS Weather for personal updates about Highland Catholic School from WCCO.
Also, please log into Cornerstone and set your alert notification from Highland Catholic School. To do this just click onto your name on the log-in page and choose “Alert Notification.” This allows you to set the contact for any emergency alerts from school. It is super important for all families to have a working contact for these messages.
