# The Kindergarten Scoop

Here are just a few of the things you can ask your kindergartner about from this past week:

We began to tackle the tricky teens. I am building their number sense with the numbers 11-19 by modeling using ten frames, addition sentences (10+1, 10+2, 10+3, etc.), and tallies. Can your child show you how to make the teen numbers using these different forms? Be ready to have another song stuck in your head as your kindergartner sings this tune over and over (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1W5aYi3lkho).

We wrote about activities that we enjoy doing in December. We practiced using the December word wall to write about our favorite activities. We also wrote about the traditions our families have during this time of year.

The students' math (and shopping) skills were put to the test when we visited the Holiday Boutique. Students browsed many items before buying for all of their family and friends. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to make our shopping trip a success!

In library, they talked about holidays and how they are celebrated. Mrs. Robinson focused on Hanukkah and read The Hanukkah Mice by Steven Kroll, parts of Hanukkah by Lola Schaefer, and Hanukkah Bear by Eric Kimmel.

## Sneak Preview

Here are some things your kindergartner will do in the upcoming week:

• We will be learning about a few of the traditions and ways people celebrate Christmas and Kwanzaa.
• We will continue to practice writing, counting, and showing numbers in the teens. Our centers for the week will focus on the "tricky teens".
• The students will begin having "jobs" in the classroom. I will use these to help teach/model responsibility and how a community works.
