McCall Elementary eNews
December 7, 2015
Greetings Colt Community!
As the semester closes, there are multiple events that we invite you to participate in as we celebrate some of this progress and our friendships. The bottom of the eNews flyer has the details about these opportunities. If you are coming to volunteer, please make sure that you have completed your background check with the district. The link to do that is: https://oea.pisd.edu/volunteer/EntryPointHomeAction.do .
We wish you and your family rest and relaxation over the winter break. Thank you for all you do to help us make McCall a great school!

AVID Corner
They are here, FINALLY!
Well it has taken longer than we had all hoped, but we finally received the rest of our AVID supplies and resources. Because this is our first year of having the AVID program our supplies were ordered late in the summer and ended up being backordered. We were actually lucky, some schools did not even receive their binders or pencil pouches at the beginning of the year. Now that we have all of the components that we need we will be able to fully implement the AVID organizational system. Teachers and students will establish a system for putting items from specific content areas behind a certain divider in their binder. This will also apply to spirals and composition books for specified content areas. In addition to helping keep the binders clutter-free, this will also help students keep track of where in their binder a certain assignment is. For example if a student completes a foldable or graphic organizer for Cause and Effect assignment, they automatically know, without the teacher saying anything, that they should put that assignment behind the Reading tab in their binder. This will benefit not only teachers and students but will also aid parents in finding assignments as well. If parents know that a review sheet for a Social Studies test was sent home, they know right where to look.
In an effort to reward classes/students for doing a great job with organizing their binders, I will be conducting random binder checks. I will pop in classrooms and randomly pick students’ binders to examine. The class that scores the highest for that week will be awarded the illustrious GOLDEN BINDER AWARD!
We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as we get AVID off the ground this first year here at McCall. I know that with everyone’s support that the AVID Elementary program will be something that has a big impact on all learners here at McCall - not just those students in 4th and 5th grade.
Thank you and have a great day!
-Scott
School Messenger UPDATE
SchoolMessenger has been updated to now include the InfoCenter mobile app. This allows our parents to login and control how they receive communications from their school or district.
The InfoCenter app provides access to all their messages and information sent by PISD (campus and district). This will be accessible from any internet-enabled device and visually displays and organizes alerts, notifications, and attachments for review and reference. InfoCenter app also allows parents to customize how they receive communications from us. Parents have been asking for this and it will help them get messaging the way they want to receive it.
Parent will sign up for the InfoCenter app using the email address that they have on file with the district. This is the one they provide on the emergency card.
They will download the InfoCenter SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Market. They can also access the InfoCenter web portal at https://infocenter.schoolmessenger.com/
We have provided a link on the online Emergency Card (Parent/Guardian Information tab) with all the information they will need to sign up if they choose to do this. Here is what they now see.
The contact information you provide below (Email Address and Phone Numbers) is used for school communication to you, either individually or in mass. Our automated notification system has a website and apps for iPhone and Android that will allow you to specify how the notification system contacts you. This link for the SchoolMessenger InfoCenter will open in a new browser window or tab and you’ll use the email address you have provided to us below to log in. Be sure to finish your child’s emergency card first and always be sure to sign on the last tab. Once complete, explore the InfoCenter and let us know if you have any questions.

Task Force Opportunity for Plano ISD parents!
The Plano ISD Facilities and Technology Study Task Force is hosting a public hearing to gather community input as they evaluate district needs with regard to a possible bond initiative. I encourage our parent community to attend this public forum, as this will be your opportunity to provide feedback or ask questions related to the committee’s work of reviewing enrollment trends and projections, as well as establishing construction, renovation and technology needs.
The hearing will be hosted on Thursday, December 17, at 6:00 p.m. at the Plano Senior High School Doyle Dean Performing Arts Center located at 2200 Independence Parkway in Plano.
For more information about this hearing or to learn more about the work of the task force, you may visit the Plano ISD website at www.pisd.edu
