Curriculum Corner
Writing: We are done with the first draft of our narrative stories. We will be conferring, editing, and publishing this week and next week. Hopefully, most of the students will be done by break!
Spelling: There will be a spelling quiz this Friday. No spelling next week due to Thanksgiving Break.
Vocabulary: This week, we are focusing on the root word cred (believe) and prefixes de- and dis- (opposite, against). Vocabulary packet will be due Thursday and the quiz will be Friday. No vocabulary next week.
Word Work: I am working with a new curriculum this year called MegaWords. This curriculum teaches common rules for breaking words down into syllables and has decoding, spelling, and vocabulary components. There will not be tests over these skills, but students will work in class to apply the skills to improve reading fluency and spelling skills.
Reading:
We have wrapped up The Hundred Dresses and our unit on realistic fiction. When we come back from break, we will begin working on nonfiction reading strategies.
Indiana History:
We will be working on a few more map skills between now and break. Students will not be assessed over these skills, but we will be applying our map skills to maps by identifying relative location, using longitude and latitude coordinates, and scale.
Science:
Our new kit has arrived! We will be spending the next few weeks focusing on forces and motion of vehicles.
Math:
We started Unit 3 this week, which focuses primarily on fractions. This week, we will be focusing on finding equivalent fractions.
STEPS to SIEW:
This year, student will be participating in a new curriculum called Second Step. At Stonegate, we will be referring to it as "Steps to Strong In Every Way." Every Friday, students will be participating in a lesson focused on social-emotional learning. This week, we will be focusing on dealing with strong emotions.
Body Safety
The presentation for our classroom will be Tuesday, November 20 at 9:30.
