The Huffman Commitment

We will work with every student, staff member, and family to develop and maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning community. We are committed to continuously improving our professional practices and take responsibility for the academic, social, and emotional growth of every student. We believe all people can grow in a positive direction.

Principal's Note

Dear Huffman Families,

As we end the first quarter, teachers are looking forward to conferencing with you. Conferences are an important way for teachers and parents to share progress, concerns, and goals going forward. If you haven't, I encourage you to reach out to your classroom teacher to sign up for a conference. Teachers are completing conferences this week and next.

As Covid cases continue to spike in our community, we can all do our part to help get our kids back in school and our businesses open as soon as possible. The cheapest and most basic CDC recommendations include:

  • Wear a mask when out and about
  • Socially distance
  • Wash hands and maintain proper hygiene
  • Stay home if symptomatic or have had close contact with a confirmed case

Please take a moment to review a few updates below. As always, please reach out with any celebrations, questions, or concerns.

All the best, Chris

Chris Opitz, principal

Small Group Intervention and Support

As we have settled into online learning, teachers have begun to meet with small groups of students to provide extra support, interventions, and guidance. As teachers reach out to you to offer this support, I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity for your student.

Small Group Interventions Offer:

  • Many opportunities for students to respond and share their thinking
  • Many opportunities for staff to provide specific feedback to individuals
  • Targeted work - students will work on the particular skills they need to develop

Don't forget, teachers are available M-Th from 2:45 - 3:15 for Office Hours. If your student is struggling, if grades or effort are low, if you you are worried about your student's learning, this is perfect time to get individualized attention. We are here to support your student and family.
