Math Updates at CAIU

Guided Math

Small Group instruction is a way to help ALL students succeed. Guided Math continues to be the framework that helps countless teachers meet the needs of their students. In order for Guided Math to be successful, I encourage teachers to look at these 5 categories of their math block: Classroom Environment, Assessments, Small Group Instruction, Whole Group Instruction, and Centers/Rotations. We base all instruction on the what (PA Core Standards) and the how (Mathematical Practice Standards) of instruction. The following workshops are a way to support our teachers implement and sustain teaching math in this framework.

Guided Math: Enrichment Tasks & Ideas
This session is for teachers to understand how to provide enrichment opportunities for our advanced students in a Guided Math framework. The first part of the session will focus on questioning and going deeper. The second part will be time devoted to developing a bank of questions and tasks to be used in conjunction with your school's current math curriculum. Teachers will be broken up into common grade levels for the second part.

DIBELS Math

According to Dibels.org: "DIBELS® Math is comprised of measures of early numeracy, computation, and problem solving that function as indicators of the essential skills that every child must master in order to become proficient in mathematics. The measures can be used to quickly and efficiently monitor the development of mathematics skills. DIBELS Math is designed for use in identifying children experiencing difficulty in the acquisition of basic mathematics skills, in order to provide support early and prevent the occurrence of later mathematics difficulties." This session will give participants tools to administer DIBELS Math to their students*. The cost covers the training manual needed for administration. Please be aware that this coming school year, DIBELS Math will no longer be a pilot. To continue using the program, a fee will need to be paid to DMG.

*This is NOT a train-the-trainer session.
