Thanksgiving Feast Volunteers
Pre-K 3 and 4 Juan Diego Academy
Dear Volunteers and families donating food,
We want to thank all of you for helping us with this fabulous event. Please understand that this is a meal for the children, the Pre-K teachers and the Volunteers who are helping us and have signed up to work from 8:00-12:00. We cannot invite families to feast with us. The children are preparing the food with the volunteers and if we invited everyone, there would not be enough food. As it is we are preparing food for 75+ people. For those of you unable to come and volunteer, please know we will take lots of photographs and video. Watch for them on facebook or in our smore letters the following week. Parents of 3 year olds will have a chance to participate again next year.
Breadsticks are the one item people have a hard time finding. It is in the refrigerated section where the biscuits are found. Look below for a picture of the breadstick package.
This week our volunteers will be receiving a pamphlet that tells you what station you will be working at and the parents you may need to contact for bringing in supplies for that station. Look for it in your child's backpack tomorrow. Bring it with you to school on the day of the feast so you remember where you will be working. thanks! All Volunteers need to come to school this Friday at 8 a.m. in order to set up the cafeteria for the food stations. I will have marked the areas with a sign that tells you where your station is located and who is working at that station.
Before I quickly review each station, please know we are in need of empty baby food jars with lids in order to make our homemade butter. If you know of anyone who has a baby and may have jars, please send them into the office by Thursday.
Procedure: Each station will have 1 group of students( 8-9 kids) who will create food for 75+ people and that includes teachers, students, and parents who came in to volunteer.
Parent helpers will need to bring utensils/materials needed for their station. Kids will bring in the food items. Also be sure and telephone your partners for coordination of the station you have been assigned to. Phone numbers are provided in the pamphlet going home this week.
Station 1: Bring masking tape. I will bring the dollar store tablecloths to cover the tables. Check your map to see where the buffet table will be set up. I am bringing in 10 plastic table cloths that need to be taped underneath so they don't slip off. Please allow the students to do the taping and placing of plates, utensils,8 0z. cups, and the different classes have placemats they have made for each individual student. YOU ALSO NEED TO DECORATE THE BUFFET TABLE WITH THE DESSERTS (PIES AND DECORATIONS PROVIDED BY TEACHERS.) There are lattice stand-alone bulletin boards that can be decorated and placed behind the buffet table. Decorations will be provided.
Station 2: Pillsbury Pop-up breadsticks: (see picture down below) This is a refrigerated item.
We have the baking sheets but not the ovens. Please bring wax paper or Crisco just in case. Our school ovens are not working so after the children have finished twisting the bread dough and placed them on baking sheets, you will need to take them across the parking lot to the parish kitchen to bake them. They should take 10 min. Maybe someone can go over at 9:30 to warm up the ovens over there. They should be back at the cafeteria baked and ready to serve at 10:15.
Station 3: Fruit Kabobs- Please bring the following if you are assigned to this station- can opener, plastic knives, bowls and 75 wooden fruit skewers. ( see picture of wooden skewers below) Children need to use the plastic knives to cut the fruit.
Station 4: Mayflower 2 layer pudding parfaits: Bring 3-4 mixing bowls, measuring cups mixer and big spoons for stirring Children will help with mixing and pouring into 9 0z tumblers in two layers of chocolate and vanilla. They will add the Mayflower sail they made in class for each of the boats.
Station 5: Salad Cups with Ranch Dressing- Bring cutting boards and 8-9 small plastic knives for students to use to cut tomatoes and lettuce. I regular knife to be used by a parent to help cut the tomatoes into pieces students can manage cutting themselves. We need peelers to scrape carrots.
Station 6: Making Butter (For children finished at their Station. Teachers will help with this station but parents done with theirs can come over and help shake those baby food jars. We need baby food jars, chips of ice, salt and 20 baby food jars.
Chicken leg cookers: We hope to have all the baked at home drumsticks come in. We cannot cook them at school because our oven is not working in the cafeteria. We need crock pots to keep them warm or a roaster oven if anyone has one we could borrow. If we don't get the drumsticks in, we will need to go and purchase baked chicken at the grocery and that would be very expensive. The following families were assigned the 15 full-size drumsticks to season and bake at home.
Reminder for our Chicken cookers are:
Boynton, Gerling, Walker,
We thank you so much for donating the chicken drumsticks. If you feel you cannot accomplish this, please let teachers know by Thursday so we can cook some ourselves.
Teachers will be providing pumpkin pies!
Thank you again and see you on Friday! P.S. Feel free to dress up as a native american or pilgrim!
