All West Jackson Middle School students and parents are invited to our first Math, Science and Connect Hands-On Learning Exhibition which will be held January 23rd from 6:00-7:30pm. This will be a fun and interactive night for everyone in the family. Check the our school webpage for more information.

Regular Math: We will continue working on ratios and proportions this week. Look for math maintenance this week!
NO TUTORING THIS WEEK.
Advanced Math - We will continue working on our ratio and proportions unit. Students will learn both the 6th grade and 7th grade units for this topic!
POW: Brake Job... look for it on the website.
Science
We will continue the energy unit this week. Students will be doing activities on wind and geothermal energy. We will go to the computer lab to do research about current energy topics.
Study the energy unit study guide that was handed out last week for 10-15 minutes each night.
Social Studies
Students are learning about Canada. They have 11 vocabulary words to learn and are working on their individual learning assignments. Study Guide for the test will be given out this week and our test will be next week. More precise dates soon.
Students should be working on the first step of part two of Create a Country.
Language Arts
This week in ELA, students will begin by studying a drama in class. Students in regular ELA will continue their investigation into folklore through drama while students in Advanced ELA will look into classic works of literature and the potential reasons those stories became classic. Then, for the remainder of the week, students will work on their contract assignments. I will be meeting with students regularly to monitor their progress, but you should be able to ask your child at any point what he or she is working on, and your child should be able to give you specifics about his or her assignments. If, at any time, you would like me to provide further information about their work, please let me know. Students will earn both a writing and a reading grade every other week for items from the contracts.
PANTHER PRIDE DAY
January 23 is Panther Pride Day. Please encourage your child to wear West Jackson Middle School Spirit wear on that day. All homerooms are in a competition to have the most students dressed in red and black.
Parents
Teachers will be given a duty-free lunch on January 23. We would like to have parents who are willing to help our administrators monitor the students. If you would be able to help, let us know.
