Walking Trip To Stoy!
We will be walking to Stoy at 1:00 on Tuesday to view a premiere of a movie starring our amazing two-headed beasts! We will meet the Stoy fifth graders that created a movie with our beasts and the High School Ceramics students will be there too! The movie will be on display at The Art Extravaganza on June 7th!
Last Trip of The Year!
This Thursday we will venture to Camp Creek Run with Stoy and Jennings Second Grades. We will learn about and more! We are very excited for this trip. Please dress in comfortable clothing and wear a green or Edison shirt and sneakers. We will be outside all day so wear sunscreen and proper outerwear. Pack a disposable lunch and label it with your child’s name. Please include a disposable water bottle.
Bag It!
Send in a shopping bag for each child by June 8th. Please label it with their name. We will be collecting our things as we clean our classroom over the next few weeks!
Literacy
This week we will explore the question, “How do you know if something is a fact or an opinion?” We will begin by reading the biography The Dog That Dug for Dinosaurs. Can you guess what the surprising discovery might be in this story. Then we will read an informational text called La Brea Tar Pits, where there are more surprising discoveries for us to find!
Target Vocabulary: discovered, guard, remove, souvenirs, amazed, explained, exact, growled
Phonics Skills: words with vowel diphthong oo (book); possessives, singular and plural
Spelling Words: took, foot, root, nook, cookbook, shook, stood, afternoon, balloon, room, crooked, look, even, tomorrow, father **Good Fit**

Comprehension Skill: fact and opinion - tell if an idea can be proved or is a feeling

Writing
Students are creating original characters and writing their own comic. This is a great way to work on storyline, character development and sequence of events.
Social Studies
We will learn about the contributions of historical figures who have influenced the community, state and nation and describe ways people honor their heroes. We will learn to read a map grid and use it to locate places on a map. We will explore the idea that cultures and civilizations existed in ancient times and that ancient Egptians, Chinese and Native Americans made contributions to our society.
Math
Tell time to the half hour, quarter hour, hour and minute.
Read an analog clock.
Solve problems about the passage of time.
Graphs and Line plots
Read, analyze and interpret picture graphs.
Complete picture graphs.
End of the Year Math Assessment
A district assessment that takes several days to complete.
