The Cub Hub-For Families
April 10, 2020
Hello Heritage Families
Dear Cub Families,
Well, even though I knew it would probably happen, it still hurt my heart to hear that we will not be returning to the building this year. I am sure this has caused some mixed emotions in you and your children as well. We promise that even though we will not be together in the same building, that we will continue to support you and our students in their growth.
This week, my challenge comes with two videos. Click on my video first...then you will need to pause and switch to the YouTube video of one of my favorite stories "Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon"....then switch back to me! The Challenge is to write a letter to a character in a book. It can be any book that your students have read (with you, with their teacher, on their own, etc). I would LOVE to see the kids read their letter in a video. If you can try to tweet us the video @HPCubs or just email it to your child's teacher. I miss seeing the kids share their work with me and am excited to see some of their faces!
Some of you have had questions about picking up your child's belongings, medications and yearbooks. Due to the Stay at Home Order from the state, we do not have a date for this pickup at this time. I will keep you posted as soon as we find a date for this via text and email.
Finally, we hope we are making our virtual learning manageable for you and your entire family. We realize that most of you are working from home or out in our community, that you have multiple students at various grade levels and maybe only one computer! Please do not hesitate to let us know what we are doing well and what we can improve on over the next month. Thank you for the support you have shown thus far!
Love,
Dr. Sutton
P.S. I will be honest; with my own two children, I have been too overwhelmed to try out our Special Area assignments yet. However, I STRONGLY encourage you to check out the lessons and videos from our Special Area Team. They are not only engaging for our students but entertaining for parents as well. I laughed and cried watching some of them! ENJOY! :)
A VERY important message for our students from Dr. Sutton
Don't forget about our School Website!
Also, if you do not have a Twitter account you can also view our Twitter feed on our website. This not only is a way for us to share information but for your kids to get a chance to see some friendly faces during the closure. We encourage you to check it out!

Census Information
Every 10 years, the Constitution requires that all residing in the U.S. be counted. The 2020 Census counts the population in the United States and five U.S. territories and it is particularly important for school districts. The 2020 Census will inform funding for educational programs that benefit our children, such as special education, after-school activities and school meal programs. Each home received an invitation in March to respond to a short questionnaire online (new!), by phone, or by mail. The information you receive has a special Census ID number to use when you respond and "Count Day" is officially April 1, but you can complete it today. All responses to Census Bureau surveys and censuses are confidential and protected under Title 13 of the U.S. Code. Under this law, the Census Bureau is required to keep respondent information confidential.
Be sure to take the time to fill out the questionnaire - so everyone in the WSD counts! For more information, visit 2020census.gov.
