Folsom School News

March 2020

Dear Folsom Families,

Congratulations to the Fast and Furious Falcons from Folsom School for being crowned the Grand Champions of the 4th Annual Technology Challenge at the Pennsauken Campus of Camden County Technical Schools! The Folsom team was under the guidance and leadership of Ms. Santilli and made up of 8th graders Perry Bascou, Michael Robinson, and Shayne Bowman.

The teams were charged with doing research on C02 dragsters and recording their ideas in an engineering notebook and on graph paper one month prior to the competition. Students created and continued to document their plans in their engineering notebooks, and then worked with their hands using assorted tools to bring their plans to fruition.

After two-time trials, they were seeded into a 16-team double illimitation tournament. The students also earned points to their overall score by competing in a STEM Tech Trivia Challenge, School Spirit and Safety Challenge, and a Robotics Drive Challenge.

Counselor’s Corner

Patience has been defined as the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.

A growing issue among our youth is the need for immediate gratification. We have all become so accustomed to having answers at our finger tips or finding solutions with a click of a button. We have delivery services that will be at our home within an hour and pre-ordered meal kits that cut down our cooking time. We live such fast paced lives and sometimes get stuck with unrealistic expectations for ourselves and those around us, including our children.

Check out this article by Ruth Soukup called “How to Teach Your Kids Patience”
