September 29-Oct. 3 * 2014
Curriculum Mapping Sessions
Grade 4 - Tuesday & Wednesday, September 30 & Oct. 1, 8:30-3:20 at JB
Grade 5 - Wednesday & Thursday, Oct. 8 & 9, 8:00-3:20 at JANE BALL
What should you bring with you? Scope and Sequences from materials you are currently using may be helpful. We will begin with math first. If your sub will not need your laptop, you may want to bring your laptop.
Curriculum Mapping - Writing
We will be completing the final section of our initial writing of the curriculum maps. I say initial because these are living documents and will continue to be updated. Please fill out your paperwork for Meryl so that she is able to obtain your substitute.
Please note the following dates:
October 14: AM - 1st grade at JB, PM-Kindergarten at JB
October 21: AM-3rd grade, PM-4th grade at JB
October 28: AM-5th grade, PM-2nd grade
The AM session will be from 8:00-11:00 and the PM session will be from 12:00-3:20.
Just a reminder...
A parent does not have to say "I want my child to be tested," in order for this to be a legal request for testing. What else could be an indication that you should come talk to me?
"I need to get help for my child." "I don't feel like we are doing enough." "RTI is not working." "When can we pursue testing?" If you get into a conversation about a student who is struggling, document it, and let me know immediately - the same day.
Students do not have to "go through RTI" in order to be tested for special education. Do not tell parents this. It is false information.
We will have a meeting next week to discuss further.
When you come to RTI and your student is on the agenda, please bring multiple copies (probably 15 copies) of the review sheet. The first meeting should go rather quickly for your student, as we are just reviewing basic data and stating the goal, unless there have been changes or there is something we need to know as a committee. Please be prepared to participate in decision making and discussion. Please bring your paperwork and documentation.
When you are in the library for the RTI collaboration session (on the "off" week), please discuss with your grade level team or colleagues and fill out the review sheet. This is a great time to talk about what might work in the classroom for that student.
Hoping the new schedule is working out for everyone, but if you have concerns or conflicts, please talk to Jessica or Sue, or let me know.
Spirit Wear Update
There are spirit wear flyers by the mailboxes. There will be an additional "Staff Only" spirit wear flyer with more spirit wear choices.
Please have all orders in by October 8.
Spirit wear will be sold in person at the Monster Bash.
If you are in need of discipline forms or detention forms, please let me know.
On the flipside - if you need some of our postcards to send home as "good news," there are some by the mailbox. Meryl and Kim have stamps if needed.
