Citizens need a voice

Government doesn't know what's best for citizens

Thesis

Citizens should control laws that affect them in anyway instead of government controlling all decisions and not benefiting them.

Quote and Analysis

The Lottery

Quote: "They do say," Mr. Adams said to Old Man Warner, who stood next to him, "that over in the north village they're talking of giving up the lottery." (Jacksoon,4)

Analysis: this shows that with the citizens in control they would know what’s best for them. Like in the lottery they thought about getting rid of the lottery but couldn't really do anything because they had no voice.

Harrison Burgeron:

Quote: “They weren't only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General.”

Analysis: This shows that the government making everybody equal wasn’t the best for the people. This shows that the citizens had no voice and were forced to follow unfair rules.

History of federal voting laws

This article talks about how everybody should have the right to vote. Laws where put in place to protect voters of color so they weren't attacked when voting. These laws let's everybody express their opinions and nobody should take this from people. This is unlike both stories because nobody had any say in what happened in their communities which prevented from living lives that they wanted. If Harrison and Mrs.Hutchinson had a say in their communities they probably wouldn't have died the way they did.

Conclusion

All citizens should have a say in what happens in there community. Harrison and Mrs.Hutchinson were both killed by unfair laws controlled by unfair laws that controlled the communities. What scares me most about this upcoming election is that A new leader like Trump would make reckless decisions that could lead to the demise of such a great nation. These decisions could mean starting wars for pointless reasons. The U.S. should find a leader who listens to the people and believes that the people's needs come first
