The Lion's Share
July 2022
Message from the Principal:
I was walking around Target the other day and noticed that they are already clearing out shelves for school supplies, so I wanted to ensure that you all had our lists before I left the office for a couple of weeks.
Some of you might have noticed an increase in traffic around the building during the last couple weeks. Settler's Point is hosting Elementary Summer School, in which close to 750 students from around the district have been in attendance. This session will end June 30.
Additionally, I wanted to let you know that during my most recent administrator meetings, the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, has led to reflection on our own safety procedures. The GPS governing board approved the installation of a "buzzer" type system to be installed in the front office of all GPS schools before the start of the 22/23 school year. I will share more specific information on what this will look like at Settler's Point when it becomes available.
I am looking forward to seeing all of our Settler's Point families in the next couple weeks.
Yours in Education,
Robert Bircher, Jr.
Principal

Free/Reduced Lunch Application During the last two school years the federal government has made breakfast and lunch free for all K-12 students. This legislation is set to expire and there doesn't appear to be any movement to renew it. Filling out the "Online Meal Application" could qualify your student for free/reduced cost meals. Use this link to fill out the application to see if you qualify. Check out the video below for more information. | 22/23 GPS Calendar As most of you are aware, Gilbert Public Schools is switching to a modified year around schedule for the 22/23 school year. This means that we will be returning to school a few days earlier, but we will be off for two weeks in the fall and spring. Check out the calendar below to ensure you know which days we have school. | Meet the Teacher This year our Meet the Teacher Open House will be on Friday, July 22. If your last name starts with A-L, please join us from 4:30-5:30. If your last names starts with M-Z, please join us from 5:30-6:30. We've had success in the past with staggering the times so that each family has more time to begin a relationship with the teacher. If you are unable to come at your assigned time, it's ok to come to the other. Note: This could be a great time to also drop-off school supplies to make your student's backpack a bit lighter for those first day pictures. |
