Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. If I was able to register my student(s) and I received a confirmation email that my registration was successful, is my registration still good for my student(s)?
A. Yes! If you received a confirmation email saying your registration was successful with the classes that you chose for your student(s), then that registration and payment will be honored. Any parent whose initial registration went through should have already received a direct message from the district with more details.
Q. I was able to register my student successfully, but what if there was an error on the schedule I got from RegWerks?
A. If you have questions about the recent email confirmation that you received from RegWerks, please email summerschool@district30.org.
Q. If I was able to register my student(s) but now they want to switch classes, can I make a switch now?
A. At this time, we are holding off on schedule changes as we focus on letting the rest of our in-district families register. We will let families know here in your newsletter when we will accept schedule adjustments.
Q. I am… at work/in a meeting/on a plane/chasing a toddler at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15 Should I be worried that my student is not going to get into the classes they want?
A. Please do not worry. We understand that you take the time to strategically choose classes with your student and we want your student to be in classes that they are genuinely interested in taking over the summer. That being said, if a class is waitlisted, do not fret! We work our magic to help kids get into classes they want to take. It may take some creativity and patience, but the goal is always to get kids into preferred classes.
If you have further questions, contact summerschool@district30.org.

Classroom Placements for 2023-24
February 24, 2023
Dear Parents,
This is the time of year when staff begin thinking about classroom placements for the coming school year. This is a very delicate process, which takes into account many factors in an effort to create the best possible learning environment for each child. This includes:
Gender balance
Student academic strengths/weaknesses
Student learning styles
Social dynamics
Identified special needs
Student/teacher match
Class size
The placement process is a team effort completed with care and consideration. Classroom teachers work with special area teachers to review student needs and dynamics. The process requires significant time and collaboration.
You may want to share information about your child to help us in this process. Each year children grow and change, as do relationship dynamics, so information that you may have shared in the past is not referred to during this year's process. If you wish to provide input, it may include information related to your child's learning style, social dynamics with other children, and/or academic strengths & weaknesses.
We ask that you do not request a specific teacher for your child. Please do not make this request of your child’s current teacher. Such requests cannot be honored, as this opportunity is not available to all children and the staffing may change between now and the beginning of next year.
This input should be put in writing to your building principal no later than Friday, March 31. Information received after this date may not be considered. Please know email is the preferred method for this communication directly to Dr. Carlson at scarlson@district30.org.
We trust that you will rely on our professional judgment as we group the children with the idea of creating the best learning environment for everyone. Thank you for your continued cooperation and support.
Sincerely,
Scott R. Carlson, Ed.D.

5Essentials Survey Runs Through March 31
Students and teachers across Illinois have an opportunity to participate in the 11th annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. The parent response rate is 4% for the 2023 Illinois Parent Survey. As a reminder, schools need 20% of their parents to respond in order to receive a report.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey for students and teachers will be conducted through March 31. The Parent Survey Supplement will be conducted during that same timeframe. To take the survey please click here or the button below and select the appropriate survey to begin.
For more information about the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, or to view previous years’ Reports, please click here. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact UChicago Impact Client Services at 1-866-440-1874 or impact-surveys@uchicago.edu.
Sincerely,
Scott R. Carlson, Ed.D.

From The Health Office: Increase in Strep Throat
IDPH and the CDC are observing an increase in strep throat -- specifically invasive group A streptococcus (iGAS) -- infections among children. ISBE is joining IDPH and the CDC in stressing the importance of early recognition, diagnosis, and appropriate treatment of these diseases in children and adults.
See this parent fact sheet for more information.
