JDRF WALK
JDRF …100,000 Ways to Help Cure T1D
We are very excited to kick off our 8th annual JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes on Thursday, March 29th during large group. Over the past seven years, the students, parents, and community have help us raise over $108,000 to help find a cure for type 1 diabetes. As progress is being made to find a cure, there is still more to go.
The students will bring home a JDRF information packet on Thursday afternoon. Your students will have an opportunity to participate in the fun by selling colorful paper sneakers (included in the packet) to friends, family, and neighbors. For a minimum $1 donation, a shoe with the name of the donator will be placed on the wall of the gym. Your child may also encourage people to donate on his/her online site by going to www.jdrf.org/kidswalk which easier to get to those out of town family members.
All packets/donations are due back on April 13th which is our celebration day … the Walk to Cure Diabetes. This is a great day for all of our students. Please join us in helping us find a cure for type 1 (T1D) diabetes by donating to JDRF research.
Thank you ~ Mary Miller & Kurt Anselmi

Announcing Mrs. Miller's Retirement
Dear Bearkat Families,
I am retiring from Black Elementary on June 4, 2018 after 30 years of teaching. I am looking forward to traveling, camping, taking care of grandkids and visiting my friends and relatives.
I have thoroughly enjoyed working as a PE teacher at Black Elementary. My years here have been some of the best in my teaching career, and I have been touched by some absolutely incredible lives. The teachers and students at Black Elementary are the best in the district.
I send each of our families a special hug and thank you for blessing me with so many wonderful years and rich experiences. I will miss each of my students greatly, but I am so glad that I have completed my teaching profession with these amazing years at Black Elementary.
Parents, thank you for your support and generosity. You and your children will always hold a special place in my teaching memories.
Love,
Mrs. Mary Miller

FIFTH GRADE DAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Fifth Grade Day
Volunteers Needed
Dear Fifth Grade Parents,
Each year, our Fifth Graders are celebrated in a variety of ways: a Fifth Grade T-shirt, a Memory Book, a Holiday Classroom Party, an End of Year Classroom Party and on Friday, May 25th, there will be Fifth Grade Day. All of these items and activities are paid for with the $25 Fifth Grade Activity Fee. If you are unsure if you have paid this activity fee, please contact membership@blackpto.net. If your family would like to make a donation or sponsor an activity for Fifth Grade Day, we would be so grateful and appreciative.
If you are interested in volunteering for our Fifth Grade Day or if your family or business would like to make a donation to this day, please complete the attached form and return it to school by
Friday, March 23rd. (deadline extended) Please note that Fifth Grade Day is not open to visitors, with the exception of the Talent Show. If you would like to be present for the afternoon events and activities, you must be an active volunteer in one of the many areas where volunteers are needed to help make this day possible for our children. This means, people attending must participate by volunteering for at least 2 hours within a subcommittee to plan, organize, execute the event, and sign up to volunteer the day of Fifth Grade Day. I know we can find a perfect place for you based on your interests, talents, and times you are available.
Thank you to Amy Wurdeman for working hard on our Memory Book with countless scrapbook hours and Catherine Nguyen and Kelley Weist for designing our Fifth Grade Day Shirts! Thank you to everyone who helped size the students for their shirts!
If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact Sandra Oliver or Nancy Twardowski at fifthgradeday2@blackpto.net.
We are looking forward to a great end of the elementary years’ celebration and send off for our amazing fifth grade children!
Sincerely,
Sandra Oliver and Nancy Twardowski

Sra. Mary Miller
