AP News
AP Exams are scheduled for May 5-16, 2014. Online registration is now open at https://user.totalregistration.net/AP/472306. The AP Exam fee is $89.00, however students taking the AP exam in Math, Science, and English will pay a reduced fee of $43.00. The National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) will pay the remaining costs for those exams.
Online registration is open until Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 11:59 pm. You will need a credit card or debit card to complete the online registration. Please see the attachment or Alisha Zimba in guidance for more information.

Second Calvary Baptist Church - W.H. Gray Men's Ministry Scholarship Award- Applicants must be a high school male student who is currently matriculating on a full-time basis at a Hampton Roads High School, is in good standing in Senior year, with a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, and meet all of the eligibility requirements and deadlines to qualify. PCEA - Ted G. Wilson Memorial Scholarship- Applicant is responsible for ensuring that all items listed are submitted to the National PCEA Scholarship Committee - Official Transcript of high school or college grades and latest SAT Scores if available. Completed application form; one evaluation form completed by your high school guidance counselor or college faculty advisor, which ever is applicable at time of the application; high school principal evaluation acceptable where counselor information is not available; and one evaluation form completed by an adult not related to the applicant. Marine Spouses' Thrift Shop - Marc S. Tace Scholarship- Applicants must be a graduating high school senior who are the dependants of active duty, retired, reservists, or deceased members of the U.S. Marine Corps stationed and living in the Hampton Roads area. Submit a photocopy of students Military ID Card both front and back; an official copy of high school transcript; two personal letters of recommendation, one must be from a teacher or counselor; and an original essay of not more than 500 words on the topic, Explain how growing up as a Marine Corps KID will help you as you begin this new chapter in your life. Virginia Mayflower Society Scholarship- Applicant must be a high school senior, a college undergraduate student, or a university graduate student under the age of 26 enrolled in an accredited educational institution or home-schooled equivalent. The applicant must satisfy at least one of the following requirements - be a resident of Virginia; be related to a resident of Virginia; be a member or Junior member of the Virginia Mayflower Society; or be related to a member of the Virginia Mayflower Society. The applicant must have a GPA of at least B or the equivalent. See Scholarship Central for more details. Deadline is March 15th.
**Elaine Graves Memorial Scholarship- $1000. Applicant must be a Salem senior; demonstrate financial need; have at least a 2.5 GPA and an interest in Science. **Arleen Linehan Memorial Scholarship- $1000. Applicant must be a Salem senior; have at least a 2.5 GPA and an interest in Science, specifically Oceanography. *Glenwood Elementary School Community Scholarship- Applicants must have attended Glenwood ES for at least one year; be a graduating senior with intentions to continue their education; provide verification of community service volunteer work; possesses a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher; complete an essay; and submit letters of recommendation. Tidewater Builders Association Scholarship Foundation- Applicants must be a local high school senior residing in the TBA service area of Chesapeake, Eastern Shore of VA, Franklin, Southhampton County, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, or Va Beach; must be a U.S. Citizen; attend and pursue an accredited four-year undergraduate degree program as a full time student during your four-year period of continual, uninterrupted studies; demonstrate financial need; and remain in good standing academically. Suburban Woman's Club - Susan Emerson Education Scholarship- Applicants must be a Va Beach high school graduate planning to attend a College in Virginia; must have a scholastic standing of 3.0 or above; submit a 200-word essay stating your educational objectives; a list of your activities in high school; a list of your activities, volunteering and hobbies; high school transcript and at least two letters of recommendation. Epsilon Nu Lamda Chapter or Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Portsmouth, VA Scholarship- Applicants must be African American males who are a graduating high school senior; earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better; be able to confirm college acceptance before the scholarship is awarded; provide two letters of reference; have proven demonstrated involvement in extracurricular activities; submit official high school transcripts; and submit a persuasive essay of 300 words or more. **Virginia Beach Sports Club Scholarship- $2500. Applicants must have played and earned a monogram in a recognized high school sport & must rank in the top 10 percent of their class. Submit a scholarship application and a letter of approximately 200 words giving information about participating in school and community activities, educational plans, career goals, and reasons for believing that they are eligible for a scholarship from VBSC. A letter of recommendation for the School Principal, Coach, or Counselor and a transcript of grade and class rank must accompany the application. See Mrs. Kressel for application. AIAA HRS Scholarship - Futures in Aerospace Scholarship- Applicants need to write an essay, no more than 1200 words, on the proposed area of study in engineering, physical science, or applied science and its relation to aerospace; have a scholastic achievement as determined by high school GPA and score on the Scholastic Aptitude or other college entrance tests; submit a letter of recommendation by a high school faculty member with personal classroom knowledge of the applicant's abilities; and show a potential for leadedership as indicated by the applicant's record of extracurricular activities. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. VB Almunae Chapter - Sadye Ringer-Shaw Memorial Scholarship- Applicants must be an African-American; attend high school in the City of Va Beach; be classified as a senior; possess good citizenship and attendance records; have a 2.5 or better GPA; plan to pursue a bachelor's degree starting with 12 credit hours at a four-year college or university; submit two letters of recommendation; submit an official transcript; and submit a 500 to 600 word essay on a specified topic. **VPAA Scholarship- $500. Must be senior with a 3.0 GPA in the VPAA and have been accepted to a 2 year program or a 4 year college. Applicants will be scored as follows: 35% transcript, 25% interview, 40% essays. See Mrs. Kressel or Scholarship Central for applications. National Help America See Scholarship for A Blind Student- This scholarship is open nationally to high school seniors who are considered totally blind. The interpretation of this is someone who has no light perception and considered a person who cannot see. The essay should highlight the student's creativity, research and life experiences. It must also include, but is not limited to, responses to the following questions that pertain to the student's situation. All essays must be between 500-1500 words. Ocean Park Civic League - The Louise and George Lyon Memorial Scholarship- Applicants must be a senior year student in an accredited high school; have been a resident of Va Beach, VA for at least a year preceding the date of application; be a student in good standing; maintain a GPA of at least 2.8; must attend a college or nursing program in the state of Virginia; and submit three letters of character reference, including at least one personal reference from an official at your school and two from persons other than relatives. Young American - Creative Patriotic Art Awards- Students must be in grades 9, 10, 11 or 12; must attend school in the same state as the sponsoring Ladies Auxiliary; home-schooled students are eligible; and foreign-exchange students are not. Virginia Beach 9-1-1 Scholarship- Applicant must be a graduating senior who will attend college on a full time schedule in the year 2014, and whose parent(s) is currently a Public Safety Employee for the City of Virginia Beach who works, or has worked rotating shifts during the student's elementary, middle or high school years. Applicant must complete and sign their application; submit at least one letter of recommendation from someone other than a family member; submit a transcript of their high school grades - minimum GPA of 2.5 is required; and write a paragraph of approximately 500-1000 words describing how shift work has impacted their life. Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship- Applicants must be a graduating senior who is a bona fide resident of the City of Virginia Beach; must be accepted by a Tidewater colleges or universities into a medical type program. Richard J. Schlimgen Memorial Scholarship- Applicant must be a graduating senior of the Va Beach City Public Schools in the current school year; have at least one year of attendance at the Va Beach High School Leadership Workshop sponsored by the Va Beach City Public Schools Student Activities Office each summer; submit a copy of your academic transcript; three letters of recommendation from adults associated with the school or school system, those adults may not be related to you; and be accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning and agree to be a full time student at that institution. George Versprille Scholarship- Applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher; have an athletic letter for two years in any of the two following sports - cross country, indoor track, or outdoor track; be accepted to a college or university; write a written statement explaining why track was important to your development as a student athlete; submit a letter of recommendation from your coach, from a teacher, and from a counselor or an administrator; and submit a copy of your current transcript. Virginia Institute for Sports Medicine Scholarship- Applicant must have attended a minimum of one sports medicine seminar or workshop, transcript, completed application, two letters of recommendation with at least one from the sponsoring certified athletic trainer, essay, acceptance to an accredited college, graduating senior of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools, taken part in student athletic training program, demonstrated a sincere interest in academic achievement, must be recognized leader within the school community by demonstrating responsibility, organization and dignity, exemplified integrity, sincerity, reliability and respect for authority. Wing's Over America Scholarship- Provides College Scholarships to dependent children and spouses of navy personnel from the US Navy's Aviation community; Officer and Enlisted, active duty, retired, honorably discharged or deceased. Applicants may be High School seniors or already enrolled in college. Service member sponsor must have served in Naval Aviation and or Subordinate Commands. Most awards are for one year, but the applicant can apply multiple years. See Scholarship Central for the application. Deadline is April 1st.
American Helicopter Society Scholarship- Seniors who wish to pursue a career in STEM fields (engineering, physics, math, science). Please see http://www.ahs-hrc.org for more details and the application. Deadline is April 1st.
Jarrod Camper Smith Memorial Scholarship- Applicant must be a graduating high school senior; active member of a varsity high school soccer team; lettered in soccer at the high school varsity level; accepted to an accredited college or university; played select travel soccer; and complete the requirements as set forth on the application. Torch of Freedom- Virginia Beach Republican Women’s Club Scholarship- Applicant and parents must be citizens of the United States; be a graduating senior from a Va Beach Public High School; have a final GPA of 3.0 or higher; and must be accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning and agree to be a full-time student at that institution. Deadline is April 4th.
**Virginia Beach Local Council of PTAs Scholarship- Applicants must be a graduating senior within Virginia Beach Public Schools; have a GPA of at least 3.0, with the exception of the vocational scholarship; be a member of the school's PTSA and include supporting documentation such as a copy of the membership card; be planning to attend a university, college, or vocational institute in the fall of 2014; submit a copy of your high school transcript and two teacher recommendations; and must include a typed essay of at least 400 words stating why you should be the recipient of the council's scholarship. AAA Tidewater Virginia- J. Theron Tim Timmons Scholarship- Graduating high school seniors whose parents or guardians are members of AAA Tidewater Virginia; other requirements include a minimum GPA of 3.0, two letters of recommendation, a copy of the applicant's high school transcript with SAT score verification, and an essay on How You Plan to Use Your Education. AFCEA Hampton Roads STEM Scholarships- Applicants must be U.S. citizens; a graduating high school senior or current undergraduate; be accepted for enrollment during the 2014-2015 academic year in a full-time course of study at an accredited four-year college or university; course of study must lead to a Bachelor degree in one of the Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics disciplines; must have a 200-250 word applicant's Personal Statement written out; and submit an official transcript reflecting academic performance for a minimum of the two most recently completed academic years. Bartley E. Tuthill Memorial Scholarship- Applicants must be a resident of Va Beach and a full time student enrolled in or have been accepted to a college undergraduate level curriculum; provide documentation of their high school class ranking and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher or appropriate equivalent of individaual scholastic achievement; demonstrated an active interest in agriculture and or natural resource conservation - environmental protection; submit most recent official high school or college transcript; copy of the acceptance letter from the college; and three letters of reference. Attach an essay, approximately 250 words. See Scholarship Central for more details. Deadline is April 14th.
Mike McGreevy Memorial Scholarship- Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher; have a Varsity letter or its equivalent in one or more sport; be pursuing a career involving some type of service - military services, law enforcement, education, medicine, social work, counseling, etc.; and must demonstrate the following personality traits reminiscent of Mike McGreevy -Integrity, Humility, Genuine Kindness, Determination, and Perseverance. Norfolk Sports Club Scholarship- Applicants must have lettered in at least one sport, cheerleaders qualify; graduate with a C average or better; demonstrate financial need; and attend college or university within the Commonwealth of Virginia. Pages 1 and 2 of your parents' 2013 income tax return, copies of your transcript, and a letter of recommendation must be included. See Scholarship Central for the application. Deadline is April 18th.
**Salem HS PTSA Scholarship- Student must be a senior with a 2.0 GPA or above who is a current member of the Salem High School PTSA. Must enter an accredited college, university, or technical school as a full-time student in the Fall of 2014. Virginia Beach School Nurse Association- Applicant must be a senior in Virginia Beach Public School System attending a four year college full time in fall 2014 with anticipated course of study in professional nursing; copy of high school transcript and activity sheet; two letters of recommendation; 500-600 word essay on why you are interested in the nursing profession; and an acceptance letter from the college. Virginia Beach City Union of the King’s Daughters and Sons Scholarship- Applicants must be a graduating senior interested in a career in a health-related field and we are looking for Christian students that have completed community service and have participated in school activities and organizations. Applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. See Scholarship Central for more details. Deadline is April 30th.
Back Bay Restoration-Bob Aaron Memorial Scholarship- Applicants must be a graduating senior from a public high school; have at least a 3.0 GPA; been accepted to an accredited college; and demonstrated interest in the environment and fishing. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, at least one must be academic, and write an essay. Suggested Essay Topic - please tell us about your passion for protecting the environment and for your love for fishing. See Scholarship Central for more details. Deadline is April 30th.
Edgar Cayce Scholarship Program- Applicants must be a graduating VB senior accepted to a college undergraduate level curriculum; have a 3.0 GPA or greater or appropriate equivalent of individual scholastic achievement; and submit an essay between 1000 and 1500 words on one of Edgar Cayce's guiding principles in life for each and every individual - Make the world a better place for your having lived in it. Use of the Cayce material is encouraged but not required. This scholarship is open to all eligible Va Beach graduating seniors with the exception of Edgar Cayce organization staff, volunteers, and or family members. See Scholarship Central for more details.
