Standing Together
I had the opportunity to listen to Elder Wilson Bearhead, a Nakota elder, speak about the value of standing tall together. He referenced that trees, whether poplar or spruce or birch or pine, all stand together in the same ethical space. Trees share resources; drinking from the same water source, draw from the the same nutrients, and soak in the same sun's rays. Much like trees, we too-share resources and stand together in the same ethical space. Coming from different places and spaces we each bring our own stories and experiences together. It can be challenging to work and play together in the same spaces but this is such an amazing opportunity to truly learn how to be in community.
Every day at school we get to teach and learn about compassion, communication, collaboration, conflict resolution, problem solving, and sharing our unique gifts and talents with one another. Is this always easy, no, but amazing-yes! What a wonderful gift we have to learn and grow together as a village. Father Kris spoke in last week's homily about the gift of children at mass and how we come together as God's community to share in the liturgy and eucharist. It is in and through community that we have the opportunity to stand tall in our ethical spaces and be the people God calls us to be.
"Stand tall together". -Elder Wilson Bearhead

Parents, Grandparents, Neighbors & Friends-Come share a story-A Story for Every Child Oct. 25th
We will once again celebrate our love of reading and read-in-week with our second annual, “A Story for Every Child” on Friday, October 25, 2019 from 2:15-2:45 pm. Our hope is that we can have one reader for every student during that time. (223 people) If you are available and can come to Saint John XXIII from 2:15-2:45 pm on Friday, October 25th, please email our librarian Mrs. Wagner susanw@eics.ab.ca or call our school and let us know 780-998-7777. We will pair readers with students. Please specify in your email if you are connected to specific students and we will do our best to match you together. Please bring along your favourite children’s book or two to share that day. Please carpool, walk, or park along the street when you come. We hope you can help us share a story for every child in our school!
