Ms. Crowder's Class
Third Grade Rocks!!
Welcome to Third Grade!
Welcome to my school family!!
I am looking forward to spending this year with your child and your family. There is a big change between 2nd and 3rd grade, and I am looking forward to seeing your child learn and grow this year. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns this year. I believe that your child will have a more successful experience if we work together.

Using Class Dojo
This year we will be using a program called Class Dojo. If you are unfamiliar with the program it is all online, and allows for parent communication. I will be sending out whole class messages, individual messages, pictures and videos of what we are doing and I track student behavior for positive and negative consequences. I have sent home a personal link for you and your student to set up accounts. If you need a new one please let me know. Each account is personal and individual.
PLEASE check Dojo each day for important information.
Be sure to download the app as I will use this as my primary form of communication with you.
Let the homework begin!!
This week we started our spelling and math homework.
Spelling words will be in the planner each week. The date of the test will be written in the planner on the test date.
Math homework will be sent home after we have had time to learn and play with the concept. Your child should be able to explain most if not all of the steps that we use to complete the problems. Please check Dojo often for help with the math homework. I will send an example of the homework if it is something that might not be presented in a way that we (adults) learned it in the "old days". LOL!
**Please see the math section for more details about math.

Spelling Words # 1
Each week you will be able to see the spelling words for the week in your child's planner. Our first spelling list will be number words. During our first math unit students will be expected to write 6 digit numbers in word form. I believe that studying number words will help students be successful in math as well as English. Our spelling test will be on Friday, September 7, 2018.
Reading
Each night your child should read for 30 minutes per night. Please initial and log the time read on the reading log at the bottom of the page in your child's agenda each night. Your child can earn Dojo points for reaching our weekly reading goal of 120 minutes per week. Students are not assigned material to read. They should pick a book or magazine that they are interested in. If they would like to borrow a book from our class library please have your child ask me to check one out to go home.
Math
Math...what can I say about math. It's not the same math we learned when we grew up.
I would encourage you to talk to your child about what they are doing in class. Have them explain the new ways we are exploring and learning about math and how numbers are related to each other. If you have questions at any time please do not hesitate to contact me.

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)
Our classroom will be a BYOD classroom this year. Parents will be required to go to a meeting before students will be allowed to bring their device to school.
I will send information home when the meeting date has been set.
