Rio Norte News - February 17, 2023
A Note From the Principal
Good Morning River Hawk Families,
Our ASB and RioTV students did a great job with the Self Love activity during Monday's advisory period and the hearts all over campus looked great (see picture below). Our students had a lot of positive things to love about themselves and we hope you did, too!
Below in this issue, you'll see our Math Counts team competed last weekend and while they didn't place, they worked hard and did a great job. We are super proud of them! We are also wishing our Science Olympiad team the best of luck as they compete this weekend!
In this issue learn more about:
- Project Linus Make a Blanket Day
- PTSA District Reflection Winners at Rio!
- The Math Counts Competition this past weekend
- Repeat of: 7th grade Healthy Choices, SCV Teacher Recruitment Flyer and the Rio Robotics Fundraiser continues.
Have a wonderful holiday weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Bennett

Project Linus - Make a Blanket Day
Project Linus would love to have you join them for Make-A-Blanket Day on Saturday, March 4 from 10 am to 4 pm at the COC East Gym! Project Linus is a chapter of a non-profit organization that specializes in making and delivering handmade blankets all across the valley to provide love, security, and comfort to children who are seriously ill and traumatized. They provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals, students, and groups in our local communities, for the benefit of children. Service Hours can be signed off on.
The event this year is on March 4th at College of the Canyon’s East Gym at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Rd, Santa Clarita, CA 91355. There will be food trucks at the event if you would like to purchase food!
District Reflections Winners!
Elina Ghosh took 2nd place in Music Composition for our district and Mia Rubenstein won 1st place in Photography. As a first place winner, Mia will move on to represent Rio Norte at the California State PTA Reflections competition.
Congratulations to both of our students and best of luck to Mia in the state competition!
Rio Norte Math Counts Team
In order to earn a spot on the competition team, students had to take 3 rounds of tests of the exact format as was presented at the competition. The 3 rounds of tests are the sprint round, target round and team round. In all, we had 25 Rio Norte students try out to be on the competition team. A student earned a spot on the competition team if he or she had one of the top combined scores after the 3 rounds of tests. Math Counts allows 12 students from each school to compete. As a result, we had 12 Rio Norte students compete officially and this year, we were also able to allow our 2 alternates to compete unofficially at the competition.
Congratulations Rio Norte Math Counts Team on a job well done!
