The Ohio State Tests (OST) - New Dates
Recently, the Ohio Department of Education extended the dates that schools are allowed to administer the Ohio State Tests. In order to ensure that students have the best opportunity to pass each test, we have pushed back our test dates. The new dates are as follows:
- 4/21 and 22: ELA 2
- 5/3: Algebra 1 and Information Technology
- 5/4: Biology
- 5/5: Government
- 5/6: US History
- 5/7: Geometry and Programming
All tests will start at 10:15 am.
All students who have taken any of the courses listed above this school year are signed up to test in the building on these dates. Our access to busing is extremely limited, so we are asking all families to make arrangements to drop off student(s) at school between 9:45 and 10:15 am and to pick up after testing has concluded. Students must be picked up before 3:30 pm. Students will be finished with testing at or before the times listed in the table below. Please reach out to us at frontdesk@thegrahamschool.org if you anticipate transportation challenges and/or with any questions you have regarding the schedule for Ohio's State Tests.
Transportation Information for Ohio's State Tests
We have great news! Students who need to will be able to ride the bus TO school this Wednesday and Thursday for the ELA 2 Ohio State Test. We also have buses TO school for the state testing held the week of May 3rd. Families should have received bus route information a few weeks ago in the mail. This should still be accurate - please contact Columbus City Schools Transportation if you have any questions at 614-365-5074. Please also review their website for other information regarding school buses, COVID safety protocols, etc.
We do ask that all families make arrangements for students to get a ride home from school by 3:30 pm on each testing day, and even earlier if that is possible (as soon as the student is finished testing). Please contact the school as soon as possible if your student will need a COTA pass to get home or if your student will not be able to get picked up by 3:30 pm on state testing days.

Updated Office Hours

Student Art
TGS junior, Chandler Marsden, has been honing in on his love for both art and horses during his spare time. Although he's not currently taking an art class, he shared his latest drawing (below) and requested feedback from Randi Channel, TGS Art Teacher. Chandler is already planning ahead for his senior Walkabout internship in 2022 by seeking an internship with an equine veterinarian.

Please Take This Survey!
As part of our OCER grant that is funding the Family Crew initiative, we are required to administer the YouthTruth survey to students, staff and families between now and May 14. These are anonymous surveys being administered through the Ohio Collaborative for Educating Remotely and Transforming Schools initiative – a partnership to support schools in improving remote learning practices and outcomes - to learn from our students, families, and educators about their experiences and to help assess the impact of the grant. Please take 20 minutes to fill out our survey!

Professional Qualifications
The parent or guardian of each student enrolled at The Graham School may request information on the professional qualifications of each classroom teacher who provides instruction to their student and the school will provide this information on each applicable teacher in a timely manner.
EL Education
Our partnership with EL Education empowers our teachers to unleash the potential of their students. EL Education is built on ten design principles that reflect the educational values and beliefs of Kurt Hahn, founder of Outward Bound. These principles also reflect the design's connection to other related thinking about teaching, learning , and the culture of schools. Watch this space for information each month about design principles.
Title 1
TGS is a School-wide Title 1 program, enabling us to receive Federal Funds to ensure that our students receive the support they need to reach and exceed grade level goals in reading and math. We welcome parent involvement in planning, review and improvement of Title 1 programs including the family engagement policy and the schoolwide program plan. Please contact Debbie Addison at addison.2@thecharlesschool.org with any questions.
RESIDENCY VERIFICATION NOTIFICATION
Per House Bill 21 community schools are now required to perform a monthly review of student files and randomly select families for residency verification. Please be sure to contact the school immediately in case of an address change. Proof of residency must be submitted within two weeks of an address change. If evidence is not provided, requests for additional documentation or a home visit may occur.
