Frequently Asked Questions
If the student is requesting a LOR from a retired teacher, where would this retired teacher submit her LOR? Directly to each University?
Follow rules for that university.
Contact admission rep through email.
Have recommender send to an admission counselor via email with your university provided student ID
A&M- does not use Naviance; prefers to have the student upload; mail directly to University
On Naviance, if the school has a computer or computer with CA or line through … LOR can be sent. If there is a stamp… needs to be sent via mail.
If the student applies directly to the university or is using the UC system, can they still request LOR and transcripts on Naviance?
Transcripts are ALWAYS requested through Naviance.
When the ranks update in September, can the student still choose to select the initial transcript from June? (If they like that rank/GPA)
If you like your rank right now, send NOW...you can always send it again.
You cannot pick the old rank
What does the transcript update in September include? Will it include classes and grades from their senior year?
June Rank- Freshman, Sophomore, Junior

SAT & ACT Testing
I highly recommend that incoming Seniors take at least one of the tests before the end of the summer. This allows students have a score for applications at the beginning of the semester. For those who would like to improve their score, there is still ample time to do so.
Be sure to check out the free resources listed below to assist with students. Khan Academy is a favorite for many Dulles students, some of which have increased their score by 300 points after their first SAT by using it to study!
Things to know about using a fee waiver and signing up for SAT and ACT:
1. You only can receive 2 SAT and 2 ACT fee waivers for all of high school
2. You must be signed up for “Free/Reduced lunch” at school to qualify
3. You can go to www.fortbendisd.com and click on the “fork, plate and knife” icon at the bottom of the screen, click on “free lunch” and “Apply online”
4. Make sure to use your College Board account that already exists when signing up for SAT. You should have one from when you took the PSAT. If you cannot remember you login, go to www.collegeboard.org and click on “forgot user name” and input the most likely email address that you would have used to create your account. You do not want to make a new account!!
5. Make sure that you upload a current picture for your test ticket when you create your account, not one from 6th grade
6. Make sure the name on your account matches your current ID that you will use on test day.
7. YOU MUST HAVE A CURRENT ID!!!! If you do not, you can get a ID letter:
· https://www.act.org/content/dam/act/unsecured/documents/Identification-Letter-Form.pdf
8. After you input the fee waiver for your SAT test, you will received 4 - College Application Fee waivers. These are in your College Board account and you can use them as you want. You only receive 4 total, so use them to pay for the more expensive college applications.
9. Any issues with your College Board account can only be cleared up by College Board, you can call 1-866-756-7346 for help. Make sure to write down any case number they give you if you have an ongoing problem.
10. To sign up for ACT, go to www.act.org and create an account. Make sure you follow steps 5, 6 and 7. Any issues with ACT you can contact them at 319-337-12701

TSI Testing
The TSI Assessment (TSIA) is part of the Texas Success Initiative program designed to help your college or university determine if you are ready for college-level course work in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. If you are an incoming college student in Texas, you are required to take the TSI Assessment - unless you are already exempt to determine your readiness for college-level work. Based on how you perform, you may either be enrolled in a college-level course and/or be placed in the appropriate developmental course or intervention to improve your skills and prepare you for success in college- level courses.
Texas Success Initiative Exemptions
The following tests can be used to exempt you from one or more parts of the TSI Assessment:
SAT (administered prior to March 2016):
- A minimum combined critical reading and mathematics score of 1070 with a minimum score of 500 on the mathematics test for a TSI exemption in math;
- A minimum combined critical reading and mathematics score of 1070 with a minimum score of 500 on the critical reading test for a TSI exemption in both reading and writing
SAT (administered on or after March 5, 2016):
- A minimum score of 530 on the Mathematics test for a TSI exemption in math (no combined score required);
- A minimum score of 480 on the Evidenced-Based Reading & Writing (EBRW) for a TSI exemption in both reading and writing (no combined score required)
Mixing or combining scores from the SAT administered prior to March 2016 and the SAT administered on or after March 5, 2016 is not allowable.
Students must attend college within five (5) years from the date of the SAT test in order to use the scores for an exemption.
ACT
A student must first achieve a minimum composite score of 23 with:
- At least 19 on math for an exemption in math
and/or - At least 19 on English for an exemption in reading and writing
Students must attend college within five (5) years from the date of the test in order to use the scores for an exemption.
If you need to take the TSI, contact the College or University you plan to attend to schedule.
