The Pershing Elementary Newsletter

Principal Message

Good Morning Pershing Families,

We have 16 more days of school left this school year and we are making every effort to make every day count! Next week is Classified Employee Appreciation Week, so please join us in thanking our instructional assistants, office staff, recreation aides, librarian, custodians, and cafeteria staff who make our school run smoothly and safely every day! Our school is a great place to learn and work because of our wonderful and hard working team!

iReady Diagnostic Assessments Continue Wednesday, May 19th for 3rd through 6th grades: Parents, please review this letter about the iReady Assessments that will replace state testing this spring. Students will have access to a "Help Desk" via Zoom, or can call the school office, for technical support. Please first direct questions to classroom teachers for assistance.

Kindergarten, TK, and 6th grade enrollments: During this time of year, Human Resources and San Juan Central coordinate our projected numbers with enrollment numbers for next year to determine staffing for classroom teachers. With that information, our school is given an allocation of teachers per grade level. It is the intent of SJUSD to plan for a full day, 5 days a week program, as far as we have been told. If you are aware of families who have not yet registered for Kindergarten, or another grade, but they intend to have their child at Pershing, please encourage them to enroll immediately online or in person at San Juan Central. If they wait too long, students may stay on a waiting list and not have a space at our school because the District must plan in advance for teacher assignments. Please visit the SJUSD Enrollment page here to register and enroll today.

Also, if you do not intend to have your 5th grader stay at Pershing for 6th grade, but instead want them to attend a middle school, you were to enroll them during Open Enrollment in the winter. That process closed in January. If you do want to pursue transferring your child to a middle school, there may still be space, but you must do this quickly through the Intra-district Transfer process. Please complete a SJUSD Intra-district Transfer:

Also, for incoming 6th graders at Carnegie Middle School, today is the final day to request courses and electives for 2021-2022:

Students in TK through 5th grade automatically return to Pershing the next year, unless they were assigned this school for "overload," in which case they return to their home school. If you are uncertain which school your child is enrolled for 2021-2022, please call our office at 916-979-8076.

If you have any questions, please reach out to our office at 916-979-8076. Thank you! We could not do this without your partnership! Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Kendra Shelton
