Summer is Coming!

What a wonderful year we have had at East Elementary! We are so proud of your students and all that they have accomplished! We are thrilled with the progress they have made and are grateful we get to be a part of their lives.

May is the busiest month of the year so please take a close look at the events we have scheduled. We hope you are able to join us for some of them!

Thank you for the privilege of educating your children!

Our Spring Book Challenge - Meet Humphrey!

Whether you were able to attend our spring parent night or not, you are invited to participate in a Spring Reading Challenge with your family. Each East family should have now received a copy of The World According to Humphrey along with a reading log and journal questions. We invite you to read this book with your children and return the completed log to your child's teacher by May 18th.

All students that submit their completed logs will earn a Reading Saves the Day spirit stick and families will be entered into a drawing for a Family Fun Basket which will include bowling passes, a Whataburger gift card, and the next book in the Humphrey series. One basket per grade level will be given away.

The library will also be open for books to be checked out on this day. Any elementary student who is an HISD student will be able to check out books (North and East students). More information will be coming soon! We would love to see you and your children on these days!

Changes at East for 2018-2019

As many of you already know, we will be adding the primary campus to East Elementary next school year! This will mean that East will now be PreK through 3rd grade. We are working to finalize details but the main change will be that 3rd grade classrooms will now be in the back of the current I-5 building. The building is located closely to the back of our building and a walkway is being constructed for classrooms to travel on from our building to their rooms. We are analyzing every detail and working to make sure procedures are in place to keep all students as a part of our campus culture and to make sure their safety is our top priority. Be on the lookout for more details and please keep our teachers in your thoughts as many of them will be packing and moving to new rooms or even buildings to accommodate this wonderful change!

Also, we will be adding additional staff with our new growth. Courtney Thomas, who has served our campus as our counselor for the last 5 years, will now be our 2nd Assistant Principal. Barbara Stevens will be an addition to our administrative team as our Student Services Coordinator. This summer we will also be interviewing for and adding a Communities in Schools representative that will serve our East families.

It is going to be a wonderful year and we are excited to add PreK students and their families to our East family!
