Volume 7 - April 2021
Message from Administration
The 2020-2021 school year is winding down and as such we are preparing for the Standards of Learning (SOL) Assessments for grades 3-5. These assessments must be completed in person at school. To accommodate this practice, April 28, May 5, May 12, May 19 are now asynchronous learning days for hybrid students. Students will bring home their devices and have assignments to work on that day which will count toward attendance. Virtual students will be coming to school to take the assessment. Testing time frame is 8:30 to 1:30. Students may be dropped off to school as early as 8:15. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Hybrid (face to face) students will be take the assessment the day prior to the virtual students.
If due to COVID pandemic, a child is not taking the face to face Standards of Learning (SOL) Assessment in grades 3-5, they will be administered another assessment virtually. Unlike the traditional SOL test, these tests will not be used for federal accountability but will provide a robust source of information for divisions, teachers, parents, and students regarding student performance. Families will need to pick up a testing ticket which will give directions as well as log in information so that their child may take the assessment on the assigned date.
We are also working on assessing students in grades preschool through second for PALs (face to face testing), STAR (online), and kindergarten VKRP for grade K (face to face testing). We encourage you to please plan ahead and ensure that your child is able to come to school to be assessed. This is valuable information for our teachers and will help plan for the coming school year.

Looking ahead, CCPS is planning for a virtual learning option for families in grades 3-8 for the 21-22 school year. Please contact the office if you are interested in possibly having your child participate in this model. We are in the planning stages at this time and are collecting interest data. Please contact the office if you wish for your child's name to be added to the planning list. Once added to the list of potential students, your child's name will move on into the screening process.
We are excited for a strong finish to the school year. Attendance is super important. We take attendance daily and if your child is not logging into class they are marked absence. Remember "You Miss School, You Miss Out".
