Caribou Trails First Week Update
Published by Crawford Elementary August 22, 2021
We Are Off to a Great Start!
Precess is a hit, and we have now honed our rainy day/extreme cold practices for the future. Drop off and pickup are getting faster every day as we are all becoming used to the process. Teachers have been teaching expectations and students have been MAP testing so that we can gain information about student learning and target instruction where it is needed.
On Friday we had a schoolwide assembly in the gym and took a few moments to celebrate being back together again. There were so many smiles and cheers and just general happiness. We celebrated together then I spoke with the 5th and 6th graders about our Encores coming up.
This year we have created an Encore schedule from 1:00-2:00 Monday through Thursday. Each day students in 5th and 6th grade will have two classes. These classes, with the exception of Band and Orchestra, are not graded but are exploratory classes for students. Classes fall into four categories: Movement, Leadership, Art and STEM. By scheduling in this way students may participate in Band, Orchestra, ELP and other offerings without missing core instruction in class. We are very excited to be able to offer this for our 5th and 6th graders.
Be looking for an email with more information specifically for our 5th and 6th grade students with more information and descriptions of class offerings.
That's all for now! Have a great week.

Don't forget to sign each child's Acceptable Use Policy in PowerSchool.
We love that we are able to assign Chromebooks to our students for use at Crawford. The policy for Acceptable Use in found in the PowerSchool Parent Portal and must be signed off for each child to use technology in the school district. Please read the policy, which outlines expectations, and then sign electronically as shown below. You should have received an email for each student.
Device AUP Acknowledgment (PowerSchool example below)
This Acknowledgment has been added to the list of things that eligible parents can handle in the Parent Portal.
Get on the Bus and Flag Week
Students must REGISTER for the bus prior to riding.
To comply with Federal requirements, all riders must wear face coverings on school buses, as they are considered part of public transportation. Face coverings will be available for students if they do not have one.
If you haven't registered for the bus yet- don't panic!
FLAG WEEK- Students may flag down the bus if they are along the route. The bus will take them to school. They will be given a note, by the driver, for the caregiver to call transportation so we can get their route figured out. We expect this to last for two weeks.
Pick-up/Drop off Procedures Updated 8/22
Students who are not eating breakfast at school need to be dropped off at the playground, using the Red Lane, as shown in the graphic below, for Precess. All students need to be dressed for the weather as they will be outside under the supervision of duty personnel until 7:40, when the school bell rings. Students finishing breakfast will also take part in Precess. If you are arriving after 7:35 am please drop off in the Loop Drive so that we can cross students from the Precess playground to the building safely at 7:40.
In the afternoon all students will be dismissed at 2:10. Students who are walking or riding a bike will leave through the Front Office Doors. Bus riders will wait in the Resource hallway, adjacent to the office. Parent pick up students in 5th and 6th grades will be escorted to the gym then wait in the gym with staff supervision until they are called (students will bring home a placard for parents to place in their front window). 3rd and 4th graders will be escorted to the Commons then wait in the Commons to be called. 5th and 6th graders with younger siblings at Crawford will go to the Commons to wait to be called.
