Wildwood Elementary
January Newsletter
A note from your principal...
I hope your holidays were amazing, filled with joy and laughter with your family. It's always nice to take a break from our normal routines, but our Wildwood faculty is ready to return to school! We work hard to form strong relationships with our students, so we miss them when we are not together.
As we begin our spring semester, our teachers are focused on helping each child reach their potential. Teachers will be working on student goal-setting and personalized learning to increase engagement every day. It is through authentic engagement we reach high levels of rigor in student learning.
We haven't forgotten about YOU! We continue to ask for your support in growing our students. The best ways to work with your children at home is by reading to them or with them daily. Research tells us reading to children benefits them by growing your bond with them, improves their listening skills, improves cognitive and language development, expands their vocabulary, improves attention span, creativity, life lessons, social and emotional development, and overall increased academic performance. Wow! There are so many benefits to simply reading with your child!
Also, I continue to hear from teachers that our students struggle with knowing their math facts. This includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. When you are traveling in the car - even to the grocery store, I suggest spending 5-10 minutes practicing facts with your child. As they increase their fact fluency, the automaticity will help them improve in mathematics.
As we all spend time reflecting on last year and setting personal goals for 2022, I hope one of your goals will be to spend 15-30 minutes of each day with your child working on reading and math. It's the best investment of your time!
I look forward to seeing your precious children back at Wildwood on January 5.

Virtual Students
If your child was here at Wildwood when we began the year in August, he/she will return to the same classroom teacher. On January 5, those students may walk directly to class.
If it is your child's first day at Wildwood, please check in to the front office and our registrar and counselor will help them to their class.

We rotate Friday visitors. For January, last names M-P will have an additional day to visit at lunch.
