Weekly word about the Word!

Readings & Reflections for Sunday, September 18th, 2016

What is this!?

Faith formation starts at home and this is a resource for St. E's families. We know that our parishioners have busy lives and we want to provide you with a quick way to open up a conversation about the Sunday readings and some ideas for living our faith. This is in beta testing :), so we welcome your comments and suggestions! Our new Children's Word curriculum is using the text Celebrating the Lectionary. The information provided here is taken from that and reformatted to be more user-friendly and at your fingertips.

This is a separate communication from the St. E's Update and aimed at families with children, so if you would prefer not to receive this each week, please click on the "unsubscribe" button at the bottom of the page.

Parents are the primary catechists of our children.

Conversation Questions

In this week's Gospel, God asks us to be trustworthy with things of this earth and things of heaven.

Grades K-2:

  • What can we do to make sure we are putting God first over our possessions?
  • Are we using our gifts in the best possible ways? If not, how might we start doing so?

Grades 3-4:

  • Name one or two ways in which you acted in a trustworthy manner this week.
  • In what other ways did you gain God’s trust?

  • What are you doing that might help build the Kingdom of God?

Grades 5-6:

  • What responsibilities were you given this week? Did you come through on everything you were supposed to do?

  • This week, did you take advantage of anyone, speak unkindly, or treat someone as an object rather than as person?

Prayer During Fall

God of life and love,

you are the source

of all that we have and all that we are.

Thank you for all you have created

and for your abundant blessings.

Make us good stewards of your gifts.

May we broaden our minds

by being open to new discoveries.

May we strengthen our bodies

by staying active and healthy.

May we deepen our hearts

through our prayer to you

and through the love we show to others.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
