25th Sunday of Ordinary Time
Amos 8:4-7
Psalm 113:1-2, 4-8
1 Timothy 2:1-8
Luke 16:1-13 or 16:10-13
Did you know... Jesus stirred up as much controversy as he did admiration? When Jesus spoke, he shared the truth about God’s love. This caused many people to become angry, because if they listened carefully, they would have to change. Many others, though, wanted to follow him, and became his disciples. Whenever we share the truth, we risk rejection. It is part of true discipleship.
Ritual
Consider this...
Ask family members to gather around the kitchen table and bring one thing that each believes is indispensible. For example, they might bring a cell phone or favorite toy. Ask everyone to explain why this possession is so important to them. Then ask them how the possession is used to honor God, share the Gospel message, or keep God at the center of their lives.
Living the Liturgy at Home
Do you have a farmer’s market in your area? Is there a beautiful fruit and vegetable section in your local grocery? Bring your child with you to shop for fresh produce. Together, wonder and marvel at the great variety of fresh, healthy foods God has given us in abundance. Have your child help you select a few items. Decide on how you can prepare them for your family’s meals this week.
Conversation Questions
In this week's Gospel, God asks us to be trustworthy with things of this earth and things of heaven.
Grades K-2:
- What can we do to make sure we are putting God first over our possessions?
- Are we using our gifts in the best possible ways? If not, how might we start doing so?
Grades 3-4:
- Name one or two ways in which you acted in a trustworthy manner this week.
In what other ways did you gain God’s trust?
What are you doing that might help build the Kingdom of God?
Grades 5-6:
What responsibilities were you given this week? Did you come through on everything you were supposed to do?
This week, did you take advantage of anyone, speak unkindly, or treat someone as an object rather than as person?
Prayer During Fall
God of life and love,
you are the source
of all that we have and all that we are.
Thank you for all you have created
and for your abundant blessings.
Make us good stewards of your gifts.
May we broaden our minds
by being open to new discoveries.
May we strengthen our bodies
by staying active and healthy.
May we deepen our hearts
through our prayer to you
and through the love we show to others.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
