CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
The tennis court enclosure construction starts Tuesday, Feburary 15. Be mindful we will have a temporary drive from Jonathan to Lot D. The traffic pattern will not change. However, until the traffic flow is established with the temporary entrance, this change may cause a slight delay at arrival and dismissal. The construction areas will be secured for safety reasons. We will continue to communicate construction updates as changes are made.

COUNSELING CORNER
Parents of Juniors: The counselors are hosting virtual Junior Conferences. Join us to learn how to get a jump start on the college application process. Please see your email for the link to join. The first conference is Tuesday 2/15 at 6 p.m.
The free ACT test will be given to all juniors March 1st. Take advantage of Lunch Bunch and tutoring offered by the College Information Center.
Parents of Freshmen: Counselors have been visiting classrooms to show students how to use Naviance to explore college and career information. Please ask your student to see the results of the surveys they completed and use the information to start a conversation about future college/career goals.
Parents of 8-12 students: Is your student interested in attending the Junior Achievement Inspire to Hire field trip on March 9th or 10th? Please reach out to their counselor as space is limited. Please click the link for more information.
From the College Information Center
Juniors and Seniors: Please prioritize reading the grade-specific newsletters that are emailed from Jennifer Meininger to you and your parents each month to help keep you on track for college. Topics include testing, researching colleges, creating a resume, finding scholarships, etc. Plus learn about upcoming opportunities and other news. You can also find the link to all published newsletters in the Welcome section of Naviance and on the 11th & 12th Grade Counseling Schoology course in the College Preparation folder.
Juniors: The free ACT is scheduled for March 1 during the school day. Did you know Walnut's CIC offers FREE test prep at school for juniors and seniors? Take advantage of these opportunities: attend Lunch Bunch, schedule one-on-one appointments during study hall (subject to availability), and/or pick up a practice test in the CIC, Room 2205. Testing tips and practice tests are also available online on the CIC Schoology course page.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
After-School Tutoring Program
The Student Success Center is now starting our after-school tutoring program and are looking for students who are interested in being tutored after school as well as students who are interested in being a tutor. The after school tutoring program will run everyday from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Tutors and students being tutored are welcome to come as many days as they would like!
While this program is a “drop-in” tutoring program in which students are welcome to come by any time, in order to ensure the best learning experience possible, we recommend letting us know in advance which days you are interested in having a tutor. You are welcome to stop by the Student Success Center, room 2701, or email us at ssctutoring2022@gmail.com .
If you are interested in becoming an after school tutor, please let us know ASAP! We are looking for students with at least a 3.0 GPA and preferably has at least a 3.5 GPA in whichever subject(s) you are interested in being a tutor in. Please stop by the Student Success Center or send us an email and let us know which days you are available to tutor and which subject(s) you are able to tutor!

The Spongebob Musical
Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students. They are now available, and can be purchased at: https://sites.google.com/view/whhstheatredepartment/tickets, where audience members can also read the COVID 19 policies for attending the performance. Please be advised that seating is currently limited for all performances
Walnut Woods Spring Volunteer Days!
Interested in beautifying our community, leaving a legacy, and earning some volunteer hours? Please consider joining us for a volunteer days this spring to contribute to our Walnut Woods project. Please see all dates and details in this flyer.
Martin Luther King Oratorical Contest
All students in grades K-12 are invited to compete in the State of Ohio Martin Luther King Oratorical contest. This is the 21st anniversary of the Statewide contest, which provides children the opportunity to gain confidence in their speaking abilities while enhancing their skills in language arts. The theme for this year’s contest is “Common Ground: It Starts with me- Beloved Community” this theme prompts students to reflect on how we, as a society, can work to build towards justice, equality and unity.
Students from Cincinnati Public will present locally in March before moving on to the statewide competition in Columbus, Ohio , in April 2022.
Next Steps
- For a student/s to present locally the Sponsoring teacher should fill out the Interest Form. This is important in order us for to know how many students will be participating.
- The Interest Form should be submitted by Friday, February 18, 2022.
- Additional information will be sent once Interest Forms are received.
Congratulations to the Mock Trial Teams!
Two Walnut Hills High School Mock Trial teams have advanced to regionals in a state wide competition. The following students won individual awards in their respective categories:
Best Attorney: Louis Ke, Elliot Lorry, Sisa Propst Zuverza, Isabel Schemmel, Abigail Soares
Best Witness: Meron Belachew, Anna Schlosser
Wish them luck as they compete on Friday, February 18th to move on to the state finals!
