Announcements from Mr. Karmazin, Principal
Good afternoon Bryan Middle School Families!
Another week of Hybrid learning is in the books! We love working with all the Bryan Middle School students! We work diligently to keep safety at the forefront to try to maintain the in-person learning environment. With that, for the health and safety of everyone in our school communities, we ask that if families gather in large groups with others outside their home over the holiday, or travel during the break, their students learn remotely for the two following weeks. If you need to make a change to remote learning based on this guidance, please call the main office at 531-299-2300 to have your student switched for the two weeks before holiday break. Thank you for helping keep all students at Bryan Middle Safe.
In addition, Omaha Public Schools makes each decision with health and safety at the forefront. With that in mind, Omaha Public Schools will begin the second semester of this school year with a phased return to in-person. Staff will teach from their classroom and students will start the semester as scheduled on Tuesday, Jan. 5 using their district-provided device from home.
Here are the dates for that phased return in-person:
Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021: All students begin with remote instruction following the normal bell schedule.
Monday, Jan. 11, 2021: Bryan Middle Schools ACP classroom return to in-person learning.
Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021: All students return in-person following the Family 3/2 Model attendance calendar.
The Remote Learning Program will remain an option for students who wish to continue learning full-time from home during the second semester. Please look for additional information to come.
In-person instruction will continue with the Family 3/2 Model in the weeks that follow Jan. 19. At this time, there are no district-wide changes to our instructional model between now and winter break.
We know students learn best in-person. We are also working closely with public health leaders and medical experts for the health, safety and well-being of everyone in our school communities. This phased return in-person at the start of second semester will limit traffic on-site and allow students and families to return to their routine following an extended winter break.
Of course, health conditions have and continue to evolve rapidly. If adjustments are needed, we will update staff and families directly, with as much advance notice as possible.
Finally, remember the calendar change for November 24. Tuesday November 24th is now a Yellow L-Z day, to allow for in-person student time before Thanksgiving Break.
As we continue through this school year, please ensure that your student is coming to school each day with a face covering that properly covers their mouth and nose. In addition, talk with your student about staying socially distance from their peers, and going directly to their next class. Students are doing an amazing job, but we appreciate the support from each of you!
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Thank You,
Mr. Karmazin
Principal
Gracias,
Sr. Karmazin

Attendance
This holiday season, the best gift you can give your child is a good education. And the best place to get an education is in school. It is tempting to extend your vacation by a few days, but remember, those days count as absences. Just a few missed days here and there, can add up to too much lost learning time. So, make sure your child is in school every day, right up until vacation starts. Our teachers will be teaching, and our students will be learning.

Khan Math Resource for ALL Students
▪ Students engage in Khan Course Mastery to strengthen skills from current and previous grade levels.
▪ Students work on Khan Course Mastery on their own time and at their own pace. A minimum of 30 – 60 minutes per week is expected.
▪ Students will earn a summative grade each semester for their work towards skill mastery according to a district provided rubric.
▪ Students can access Khan Academy Course Mastery on any device with internet connection, such as laptops, iPads, and cell phones.
▪ Students who use Khan Academy for 30 minutes a week are more than twice as likely to meet grade-level math standards per Khan research.
▪ Students advance through Khan Course Mastery by correctly answering questions in mastery challenges, unit tests, skill quizzes, and/or individual skill practice. Videos and hints are immediately available to assist, clarify, and explain.
Teachers will encourage progress and will help with goal setting and provide feedback on their progress in Khan Course Mastery every two weeks. Bear Bucks is Now in Class Dojo!
At Bryan Middle School we use Bear Bucks for positive reinforcement that the students can use to purchase select items from our Bear Bucks Store. This year, like everything else, we went virtual and are using an app called Class Dojo. The students can log into Class Dojo to see how many Bear Bucks they have received from each teacher! They really enjoy "shopping" for prizes at the Bear Bucks store (available during lunch on select days and cognizant of COVID procedures). Remote students - more details are coming on how you can use your Bear Bucks!
Parents: You can also sign up for Class Dojo and watch your child's progress and even communicate with their teachers! Click HERE to learn how!

BMS Counseling Department
Hello Bryan Middle School Families,
Hope you are all doing well! In the upcoming weeks, counselors will be meeting with our students to go over their Personal Learning Plans in Naviance. This is part of a district wide curriculum to help our students become engaged and get them thinking about their plans and goals for school and life. We are excited to see what they have to share.
This week’s CUBS lessons will continue to focus on GRATITUDE. We will be doing a project that will get students thinking about what they are grateful for. There is so much research that supports having an grateful attitude improves both physical and mental health. It is very beneficial to create a habit of reflecting on what we are grateful for in our lives.
The Bear Den is up and running. We have been working with students after school virtually to help them with missing work and homework. We will continue to do this virtually from 3:15-5 pm Monday – Thursday. Students need an invitation to attend. If you would like your student to attend the Bear Den, please contact a counselor to sign them up.
Feel free to reach out to us using our Counseling Form. We will be answering emails during school hours. If you have an emergency, please call our Safe Schools Hotline at 531-299-7233. Additionally, our counseling website has been updated. Feel free to explore, there are some great resources!
