Digitize Common Assessments-Part 1

BEST District of the EVSC - November 4, 2015

Common Assessments Can Go Digital

Across the district, teachers are collaborating to create Common Assessments (CAs). As we refine this process, the assessments improve, thus instruction improves as well. Even though assessments and instruction are improving, now may be the time to rethink the pencil and paper method for administering the CA, and instead try a digital format. Google Forms would be an ideal option for administering CAs. Google Forms would also be a great way to embed Technology Enhanced Item (TEI) skills into an assessment that would mirror question types on ISTEP+. Try it!

Getting Started

Once you are in your Drive, follow these simple steps:

  1. Click New -- More -- Google Form
  2. Create a Title for your Common Assessment
  3. Uncheck the box "Require EVSC login to view this form"
  4. Paste text, directions, etc. into the Form Description Box.

Ready for Part 2?

Next week, our focus will turn to grading these digital Common Assessments. No teacher wants to print all of these responses out, right? What if I told you that there is a way to have all of these form submissions graded for you? Stay tuned for next week's tip!
