Heyyyyyy Heritage
Hello Heritage -
You have survived! You made it through 5 days with new students, excessive heat and indoor recess. That alone is an accomplishment!!!
Thank you to everyone who spent extra time with our Kindergarten Kickstart, late buses, long parent pick up, helping lost students, consoling parents and even colleagues! We have really needed extra support this week and as always, at Heritage we have it in spades!
We have seen students, parents, staff and even kittens cry this week!! Go home, get some rest and make sure you take a moment to think of the best "scene from your week". Here is mine:
I walked behind a 2nd Grader holding the hands of 2 nervous Kindergarteners. He was overheard saying "it's easy, you just walk in the gym and sit on an X - not sure what color yours is...but then you wait for your name to be called. Then you get up and you get to go home!"
It has been lovely to see our 2nd Graders take on some leadership roles that we used to reserve only for adults. Thank you for empowering them to help others. I'm so proud to be a cub and excited to see you all next week!
Love,
Sutton

Breathing...Everybody Does it Right?
I recently listened to this podcast from Mel Robbins. I found it so fascinating about breathing the right way can lower stress levels, overcome stuffy noses, and improve our overall health. I was skeptical at first, but there is a lot of great research to support the impact of this. When you have time, check out this podcast. I'm sharing it through YouTube so you can see the breathing exercises in action. You can also share these exercises with your students.
Warning: Don't show the entire podcast. Just the breathing exercises. LOL!
One Book, One School
I hope this book resonates with your class and opens up a great discussion about how each of us is a smart cookie in our own way. This book is also on Novel Effect. Be sure to check it out on the app and use the code C3XMCM to register for an account. Questions? Contact Katie Krietemeyer on how to use this app.

Support Staff Reminders
- If you are working over 35 hours/week you must have permission from Sutton/Kennedy to be approved. We will already know about your routine team meeting dates and building meeting dates. Anything outside of those meetings must be approved. (ie-working in a teachers classroom until 5:00 pm, riding a bus home, etc)
- If you have concerns or questions about a student you are working with please go directly to your Case Manager first. If your concerns do not get resolved with support/help from your Case Manager, then you can touch base with Amelia Swyers our SPED Dept. Chair. If your concerns are still continueing, then you can go to Administration.
- Finally, THANK YOU! You have been so flexible with your schedules this week as we have added new students, as we are learning our new students and as we continue to be short staffed. Thank you for having such a positive attitude and for loving all of our kiddos! We appreciate you!

Info from Academic Services about Decodables
In response to a few questions I have received regarding the decodables you received this summer, I am attaching an infographic that the wonderfully talented Laura Cento created for us.
In this document, you will see an explanation of:
-The purpose of using decodables.
-The settings they should be used in.
-How they can be stored and managed.
-Appropriate quantities of decodables and leveled texts in classroom libraries and book boxes/baggies, by grade level.
We are NOT getting rid of classroom libraries, leveled books, or trade books. Additionally, here is a great article about decodables if you would like to know more.
Thank You-

Professional Growth Plans
Please find a time with your teams to complete these together- they can be confusing. Remember we are ALL working on the SAME goals so we are choosing the same indicators for our PGPs!
Here is a slide show that you will be able to copy and paste directly from to help you fill it out!
STOP at Slide #2 - we will not be completing our Growth Forms yet!
Student Growth Measure Info
Here is a slide show that you will be able to use to help you fill out the Growth Forms. START at Slide #3!
Here is the BoY Growth Form. These are due September 30!
We would suggest filling it out with your team! Please ask Beth and Sutton if you have any questions!
Committee & Action Team Sign Ups
To balance out that commitment, we will be changing our Monthly Faculty Meetings to Quarterly Meetings. Please click on this link to sign up for one committee and to put the Quarterly Faculty Meeting Dates and your Action Team Dates on your calendar.
Report Card Indicators Update
These report card indicators will go into effect this school year and have already been loaded into Tyler SIS. Please watch this short video and review this report card indicator cheat sheet to prepare.
Full Disclosure- Sutton hasn't watched it either - so send any questions/concerns to your Grade Chair and we will answer any at Leadership!
