Murphy Lion Leader
Empowering and Celebrating the Leaders of Today and Tomorrow
On March 31st, Murphy Elementary opened their doors to about 40 parent volunteers, community members and visiting teachers/administrators. Our goal was to show off our amazing Murphy Leaders! The day began with our monthly student led goal setting assembly, followed by student presentations on community service projects . Students then led tours throughout the building and concluded with a student question/answer session and lunch to thank our volunteers.
The feedback that we received was amazing, our students were articulate, confident, and extremely proud of their school and all that they have done to be leaders this year. We look to grow this event every year. Murphy could not be more proud of their student leaders and the amazing staff, parents and community members that have supported us. I have included the link to the slideshow below, enjoy! It is a great day to be a Murphy Lion!
Just a Reminder! Breakfast is free for all, everyday!!!
Pedal the Cause presents Clare Blase Spirit Award to Colin Schlereth
Young Fenton Resident Receives Top Honors
“We are extremely excited that Colin is receiving this award as he truly embodies the same incredible spirit as Clare,” said Carrie Sweigart, COO of Pedal the Cause. “This award was created in 2012 to honor the memory of Clare Blase and her infectious enthusiasm, determination and inspirational leadership in raising funds and awareness for Pedal the Cause and cancer research.”
Pedal the Cause, a community-wide cycling event that raises funds to advance cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children’s Hospital, has already funded 70 cancer research projects — including 51 adult and 19 pediatric projects. The funds from Pedal the Cause 2015 brings the total donation to an astounding $12.5 million in merely six years — 100% of which directly supports innovative cancer research in St. Louis.
The 2015 event was Colin’s first year participating in Pedal the Cause. Colin was a virtual rider on St. Louis Children’s Hospital Team Colin. In addition to being a founding Feature Fighter on the Road to Pedal campaign and representing Pedal the Cause in multiple media appearances, Colin gave 100% in his fight to overcome brain cancer. Furthermore, Colin raised $2,500 to accelerate lifesaving cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children’s Hospital so that no other kids will have to go through what he went through, “especially the little ones.”
True to his slogan, “Can’t Stop Colin,” this young man plans to return to Pedal the Cause in 2016 and continue raising critically needed funds to advance cancer. You can join Colin at Pedal the Cause 2016 or support his efforts to create a world without cancer by visitingpedalthecause.org.
About Pedal the Cause:
Pedal the Cause is the premier cycling experience in the region, the pinnacle event of the year, and the driving force behind creating a world without cancer. Pedal the Cause is the only St. Louis event that gives 100% of public donations to Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children’s Hospital to accelerate lifesaving cancer research. Pedal the Cause 2016 will be held on Sept. 24 & 25 at the Chesterfield Amphitheater

Third Graders Are Ready for a Great Month!
Third grade students ended March with the first Final Reading Friday! It was great to see the students reading and spending time with their families. The next Final Reading Friday is April 29, 2016. Please mark your calendars for this special date.
This month, we have been preparing for the upcoming MAP test on April 14-15th and 18th-19th. Parents can visit the Northwest website and look under the students tab. Click on the link that says insight tools on the left hand side of the screen. Then, you can log in and practice for this very important test.
Third graders will end the month of April with a visit from the High Ridge Fire Department. They will be bringing their fire safety trailer to teach us about fire safety at home. More information will be sent home soon!
Fourth Grade Rocks!
4th Grade Leaders
The 4th grade classrooms have been busy gearing up for leadership day. We have been reflecting on the 7 Habits and writing about them. We have been thinking about and discussing what it means to be a leader.
We are also preparing for the MAP test. You can help your child be proactive in several ways:
Encourage your child to do his/her best
Avoid scheduling appointments on MAP testing days
Encourage your child to get plenty of rest the nights before testing
Make sure your child eats a satisfying breakfast
4th grade testing dates are April 11 and 12 for ELA and April 20 and 21 for Math. If you have any questions, please ask your child’s teacher.
Lastly, we are planning our 4th grade field trip. Information will be coming home soon!
