Final Day for PHS Commitment
Final Day to Complete
Commitment Form for Pieper High School
Starting with the 2024-25 school year, students living south of FM 1863 will be in a new attendance boundary with Pieper High School as their home high school campus.
Current Smithson Valley High School students and Smithson Valley Middle School eighth-grade students who live south of FM 1863 are able to stay at SVHS for the entirety of their high school without doing anything.
If they would like to attend their new home campus, PHS, beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, however, they should complete the commitment form for PHS by midnight, today, Friday, Jan. 26.
Families will be notified mid-February of their commitment approval.
'Automatic' Grandfathering for Smithson Valley High School
Students who choose to stay at Smithson Valley High School will receive district transportation. However, district transportation will discontinue once next year’s ninth grade students graduate (2027-28 would be the last year of service).
Bulverde Middle School Boundary
The Comal ISD Board of Trustees approved the attendance boundaries for Bulverde Middle School during its December meeting. Located at 29975 Wiley Rd, Bulverde, the new campus which is part of Bond 2021 is scheduled to open in August 2024.
In addition, the boundary between Pieper and Smithson Valley High Schools was moved north to FM 1863 to create a pure feeder pattern for Bulverde Middle School to feed into Pieper High School.
In September, the district convened an attendance boundary committee comprised of 55 community members representing 11 campuses along the Hwy. 281 corridor. This committee was tasked to develop a boundary recommendation that relieves enrollment at Pieper Ranch Middle School and effectively utilizes the capacity at Bulverde Middle School.
Who is impacted?
The boundary changes impact those families who reside in the current Johnson Ranch Elementary (JRES), Smithson Valley Middle School (SVMS) and Smithson Valley High School (SVHS) attendance zones south of FM 1863. Students who reside north of FM 1863 are not impacted by the boundary changes.
At the middle school level, Bulverde Middle School will be the home middle school campus for the following students starting with the 2024-25 school year:
- Johnson Ranch Elementary students who reside south of FM 1863.
- Current 6th and 7th grade Smithson Valley Middle School students who reside south of FM 1863.
All students who attend Bulverde Middle School will attend Pieper High School upon entering 9th grade.
Course Offerings
Both Bulverde Middle School and Smithson Valley Middle School will offer students the same academic and extracurricular opportunities.
