MHS Updates

Panther Families-

Thank you to all MHS students for adhering to the MISD dress code and for wearing student IDs while in the building. There has been a drastic decrease in the number of students we address each day since the start of the Spring 2022 semester.

Parents, thank you for your support and partnership to help us create an orderly environment focused on student success.

As a staff, we are committed to your student's excellence and success. We believe that by helping instill positive habits while at school, we will help set our students up for success after their years at MHS. Small habits like wearing IDs, adhering to rules and expectations such as dress code, and practicing focus in class by staying off our phones contribute to a culture of excellence.

Thank you,

Kalee McMullen, Ed.D

MHS Principal

Course Registration Instructions

Skyward Tutorial Video

Counselors will start meeting with students for their individual meeting the week of January 18th. Students will turn in their course selection sheets then. Heritage High School Counselors will be here at MHS to meet with the students who will be attending MHHS next year on January 25th and 26th.

Online Course Fair Information

On Thursday, all of our current MHS students toured the course fair in the Arena to learn about all of the course offerings and pathways we offer. We hope the event was informative and enjoyable for our students.

The information linked below was sent out by MISD Communications on Friday to parents of all incoming 8th graders. Although it is geared toward new freshmen, there is a lot of great info for families:

For parents of students who will attend Midlothian High School next year as ninth graders, we would like to provide you with the MHS Eighth Grade Parent Night Slide Deck and the MHS Course Fair Slide Deck.

We have included our MHS Eighth Grade Parent Night Presentation Video.

Also, for your reference, we have included Course Registration Instructions in Skyward and a Skyward Tutorial Video.

Please contact your student's counselor if you have any questions or need support.

MHS Debate

Congratulations to Trevor Tobey for advancing to finals for State Congressional Debate tournament and finishing 4th place! Trevor is the first student in MHS history to make it this far and place in this competition. Congrats to Trevor and his debate coach, Mrs. Bogy!

Parents and Students:

When a student checks out with attendance and then returns to school at a later time, that student will need to check back in through the attendance office before resuming their normal schedule.

Event Attendance

MHS Community-

We enjoy having great crowds at student events such as concerts, sporting events, and performances to support our Panthers . We would like to take a moment to remind students that attendance at after school events is a privilege and we expect the following expectations are met:

1. Student spectators in attendance at events have their school ID with them at all times.

2. Student spectators adhere to the MISD student code of conduct at all times and conduct themselves in a way that is respectful to themselves, others, and the facilities.

3. Student spectators are to be picked up and depart MISD property within 30 minutes of the conclusion of the event. Any student waiting on a ride after an event is to wait in the area designated by the administrator on duty. This is to ensure all students are supervised while waiting for a ride. Students who are not picked up within 30 minutes of the conclusion of the event are subject to having event attendance privileges removed for a period of time.

Thank you for making our events spirited and safe for all!

AP Exam Registration

Advanced Placement Exam Registration

Taking the Advanced Placement exam is an important part of all AP courses. Midlothian High School desires that all students take AP exams for the AP classes that they have taken. Scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school class. Additionally, MISD is excited to offer a reduced fee for AP exams for the 2021-2022 school year.

Dates and Deadlines:

  • Students taking AP exams at MHS must register and pay for exams on the Total Registration website. Regular registration is open from October 1st - 29th, 2021.

  • Late registration for all fall semester and year-long courses will incur an additional $15 fee and will run from October 30th, 2021 through November 5th, 2021. There will be no registration for fall semester or year-long courses after Nov. 5th, 2021.

  • For spring-only courses, the regular registration deadline is February 25th, 2022. Late registration (with an additional $15) fee runs from February 26th, through March 4th, 2022 this is ONLY for spring-only courses. There will be no registration after March 4th, 2022.

Procedures:

  • For 2021 AP Exams, the cost is $35 per exam.

  • Students who qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch will have the exam fee waived.

  • Register & pay for AP exams at www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/444750

  • Students will have the ability to pay the exam fee online at the time of registration. Please be sure to have a credit or debit card on hand before beginning registration.

  • Before we can order AP exams, all students must also “enroll” for their AP exams with the College Board. At the end of the registration process with Total Registration, students will be provided with information and a link to complete the enrollment process with the College Board. Please complete this final step right after registering/paying with Total Registration to guarantee the AP exam(s) will be ordered.

  • Please contact sabra.golden@misd.gs if you have any questions regarding registration.

AP Exam Refund Policy:

  • Students who cancel an exam by November 14th, 2021 are entitled to a refund of the $35 exam fee (fall semester and year-long courses only).

  • Spring-only exams can be cancelled for a refund through March 4th, 2022.

  • Any late fees incurred with exam registration are non-refundable.

  • You will be liable for the unused exam fee if you do not take your test.

SSD Policy:

  • Students with disabilities seeking testing accommodations (who aren’t yet approved through the College Board) need to submit their request with Mrs. Golden.

The deadline for requesting testing accommodations is January 18th, 2022.

If you have questions about AP courses or exams, please contact your student's AP course teacher, your student's counselor, or Stephanie Martinez, MHS Associate Principal.
