We had a wonderful week. So many fun activities for red ribbon week.
The kids really enjoyed the fire safety show. Our Connor got picked to go up on the stage. It was great fun!
The kids got to go work in the OSE garden. They even sampled some cucumbers. They were the sweetest cucumbers I've ever tasted. Mr. Restuccia and his wife had picked some green beans in our garden. His wife pickled them and entered them in the State Fair competition. She won honorable mention for her OSE Green Beans! So cool!
Mrs. Van Meter came for our gifted and talented lesson. The kids really enjoyed her and the creative activity. They had to compare their heart to something. For example: My heart is like the sun because it is full of brightness. It was very interesting to see their thought processes.
Our mystery reader flew in to read to us all the way from Connecticut! Fenway's aunt did a wonderful job and surprised Fenway! Her mom joined in the fun too. Thank you both so much for coming and sharing your time with us.
The kids are not permitted to wear costumes on Monday. I may show the movie Monsters Inc as a treat though. We have read several books about monsters and it fits nicely with that. I will also provide popcorn as a snack. We will do that in the afternoon.
Have a great weekend!

WHAT WE'VE BEEN LEARNING
Language Arts- We read I Need My Monster and bunches of other seasonal books. We did some creative writing after reading The Pumpkin Smasher where we wrote about how we would trick someone that was smashing pumpkins in our neighborhood. We also did a little more with common and proper nouns.
Social Studies-We read a book about Diwali. A couple of our student "experts" were able to share and give information about this festival. We then journaled about what is means to treat all people with respect. My favorite response was " It doesn't matter how people look or they do something different. It's about the heart that they show and the care that they give." Gotta love that little thinker's heart!
