What is Desalination? What long term effects does desalination have?
Desalination is the process of removing dissolved salts and minerals from sea or brackish water.
Some long term effects desalination has are people are trying to reduce the amount of energy needed to do the job they are doing this by using solar power instead. they will also do this by doubling the recycling program and the conservation program.
Some Interesting Facts Are........
- Jean De Lery reported the successful desalination of sea water during a voyage to Brazil in 1565.
- Desalination is done in desalination units one unit produces 8.3 billion gallons of water per day.
- There are desalination units in over 150 countries around the world.
Effects On The Environment
- burns fossil fuels
- destroyed the base layer of the marine food chain
- left over salt for every gallon of salt is dumped by shore
