Slam is a fictional story about a boy named Greg living in what most people would call the "ghetto". "Slam" was his nickname and everyone called him that. He, changed to a different school in his city thinking it would help his grades, but all he could think about was basketball. During the season, he was having a lot of trouble in his classes, but he was the best basketball player in almost the entire city. Read this book to find out how Slam learns to cope with tough situations life throws at him!
Plot
In this book Slam, "Slam" faces adversity on and off the court. At the beginning of the basketball season he failed his first test in math. Throughout the entire story, Slam has to learn to do his best off the court or else he wont be able to show his stuff on the court.
Message
The book shows how hard it is to not only be a student athlete but being a student athlete who comes from where Slam came from. Slam came from a poor neighborhood and had a dad who was a lot of the time in some trouble himself. In the book Slam learns how to deal with his living style and appreciates what he has.
Theme
Learning how to deal with troubling things and also learning to be selfless is a huge part of theme for this book. Slam learns big time lessons throughout this whole book.
