Stellar Second Graders
Mrs. Coffey, Mrs. Mayo, Ms. Zerbel
Bracelet Project
Students went through the manufacturing process. We thought about what materials we would need to make bracelets and what human skills were needed. We discussed how many we should make and how much we should charge. Mrs. Coffey ordered the beads and string, but the second graders did the rest! All second graders worked hard on making beaded bracelets. Each child was also on a committee. One committee worked on making posters to advertise our product around the school. Another committee made daily announcements to remind students of when bracelets would be sold. A third committee made classroom visits. They went to all of the other classrooms to tell them a little bit about our project and to answer any questions other kids had. The fourth committee is now selling bracelets during the lunch hours. They are using their money skills to make change and have been so helpful with helping students pick out bracelets.
All students also got to vote on a local organization to give our profits to. The kids voted on the Hope Center in Waukesha. We are excited to give back to our local community. Students are truly taking pride in this. They have all done such an amazing job! We are so proud of them!
Pictures to come!
Reading Home Log & Fairy Tale Challenge
January reading logs are due on February 1st. We will keep track of reading minutes on the "Pizza Hut" Book-It program calendar. Even if you don't want the Book-It! coupon, please fill out that calendar. (It will save us from having multiple reading logs.) Remember to put your child's name on the form by having them "sign" the signature line.
Keep going with the Fairy Tale Challenge. I love hearing all about the books that the children are reading. So exciting! As a reminder, we are challenging students to read as many fairy tales as possible at home. Look at the library, online, and in your own book collections. There are many different versions of the same story. Any version from any culture is acceptable. These books can count towards the Book It! reading log as well. In library, students will be encouraged to check out fairy tale books. This is due on Monday, February 4, 2019.
