BULLDOG BULLETIN
New Britton Elementary
May 6, 2022
I AM. YOU ARE. WE ARE. BULLDOGS!
News from Mrs. Mankin
Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week Our week of appreciation started with notes of thanks, greeting Bulldog team members as they arrived at school. The extra thanks, appreciation, treats, and mementos were energizing. We are so thankful to be part of such a caring learning community! | Newest Members of our Bulldog Team Chicks were "a-hatching and peeping" this past week at New Britton in first grade! Our learners took part in an authentic experience in observing the life cycle of a chicken. The new vocabulary and connections that are students made will not be forgotten. | Persuasive Writing Writers in Miss Esposito/Hughes' class wrote for an authentic audience, Miss Katie from Sunrise Doughnuts (Fortville, IN). They created a custom doughnut, including design and flavoring, and explained why it should be added to the menu. These writers were surprised when Miss Katie visited and brought each student their creation! |

Persuasive Writing
As our year is coming to a close, our learners continue to engage in a variety of learning experiences. The past few weeks, our students have shown patience, flexibility, and perseverance as they have completed some district and state end-of-year assessments. At New Britton, we believe that it is important to consider the "whole child" when reflecting upon growth over a period of time. We reflect upon social-emotional, physical health & wellness, and academic growth as we celebrate success and consider next steps to support our learners. We appreciate your partnership as we work to help our children realize their potential!
As families consider plans for the summer, be sure to review the many options right here in Fishers. The Hamilton East Public Library has a summer reading program to encourage children and families to read - please see more details later in the newsletter. If you have not visited the Ignite Studio, I encourage you to do so. There is a little something for everyone...to ignite passion and curiosities! Another great community resource right her in Fishers is our Fishers Parks. Please visit this site to learn about our parks and different activities and experiences you and your family can take advantage of.
In reflecting upon the entirety of our school year, I continue to be grateful that you have chosen to have your child(ren) learn and grow with us! Have a restful weekend. As always, thank you for partnering with us in education.
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin
Music to Our Ears These musicians copied rhythms and were then able to create their own for others to try. Improvisation is application of our learning! | 3rd Annual Book Drive Collaboration Students in Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Buening's classes joined to create plans for our now annual used book drive. This collaborative service project is a great way to share the love of reading with others. Our goal is for each student to have at least one book to take home for the summer! | Folk Dance Club Mrs. Jackson and Mrs. Thornsberry led these Bulldogs in learning folk dances from a variety of countries. The students enjoyed learning, dancing, and joining others for a Folkdance Festival at North Central High School |

Here's how the program works. Your student will pick up a small sack of food to be taken home over the weekend. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, peanut butter/crackers, Goldfish crackers, etc. The type of snacks will vary each week. Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks.
