UIL IS COMING!
Lago Vista is excited about UIL for our 4th and 5th Graders! We will have our Kick Off Rally on Thursday, September 28, and sign-up sheets will be posted in the hallway at the Intermediate campus. Students may begin signing up for events on September 29. The coach of each event will notify students and parents of their practice schedule.
The Writing contests will take place on each home campus in early January and will be held during the regular school day. The District Elementary Academic Meet for Grades 2-5 will be at Florence Elementary on Friday, January 26. The other schools competing in our district this year are Florence, Harmony, and Gateway Academy.
Please take a look at the list of events on the bottom of this page, discuss UIL with your child, and encourage them to try-out for any events that interest them. Students may sign up for more than one event, but the contest times cannot conflict. We will have more information on event times and conflicts in the upcoming weeks.
Feel free to go to the UIL website for detailed information about each event: http://www.uiltexas.org/aplus/events
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me via email.
Thank you for supporting our UIL students and coaches!

Parents of students in grades 1-12 who consent to having their child screened for the
Lago Vista ISD Gifted and Talented Education Program should complete a referral form and return it the student's school by October 2nd. Note: Parent consent is obtained each spring for all kindergarten students, so referrals for G/T screening are not accepted for students in kindergarten.

Attendance this Week
Tardies Reminder:
The number of daily tardies came down significantly this week, averaging only 6 per daily/ Excellent job!
Here is some information regarding our tardy policy from the district handbook:
TARDIES (All Grade Levels) A student who enters class after the tardy bell is considered tardy. Repeated instances of tardiness will result in disciplinary action, in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the campus discipline matrix.
Our campus start time is 7:45. Any student who is not in their classroom by that time is considered tardy. The only exception to this policy is if a school bus is running late. After 3 tardies our students receive one day of lunch detention. After three lunch detentions, students receive an after school detention.
Attendance Percentages:
4th Grade: 98.11%
5th Grade: 97.13%
Total: 97.59%
Teacher: 98.62% Teachers won this week!!!
Counselor's Corner
Lago Vista ISD is excited about our newest district-wide No Place for Hate® initiative, Project Vinátta. The No Place for Hate® initiative from the Anti-Defamation League provides schools and communities with an organizing framework for combating bias, bullying, and hatred, leading to long-term solutions for creating and maintaining a positive climate.
It is Lago Vista ISD’s goal to become a No Place for Hate® district by creating Project Vinátta student coalitions on all four campuses in 2017-2018.
Mrs. Coffey and I will be sponsoring the Lago Vista Intermediate School Project Vinátta student coalition efforts. Applications for a position on our student coalition will be available on Wednesday, September 27. We are visiting all classes to review the process with students this week and next Monday. Interested students must complete an application and submit it to Mrs. Coffey or the LVIS front office no later than Tuesday, October 3. No late applications will be accepted. We will be selecting 12 students from each grade level. Mrs. Coffey and I are anxious to see what activities our student coalition can provide to get all LVIS students and staff energized about creating a more compassionate learning environment! Stay tuned for more details!
Attention 5th Graders:
As I discussed with you this week, we will continue to have Leaders in Action this year! If you were a member last year and want to continue to participate in this service organization, please plan to attend our first meeting on Tuesday, October 17, during lunch. If you were not a member last year and would like to submit an application, they will be available next Wednesday, September 27. Leaders in Action applications are also due on Tuesday, October 3.
Leaders in Action is for 5th grade student leaders who are interested in being a positive voice on our campus and in our community. Students will be able to submit applications that will reflect their desire to grow as a leader and their willingness to dedicate time and energy to this organization. I am proud of what Leaders in Action accomplished last year and am excited to see what our students can do this year!

Box Top Campaign
It's that time again! Although we collect them all year long, the submission is only allowed once a semester. Let's make it rain Box Tops. Get them to your teacher by the fall submission deadline. We need to have them all collected and counted by October 23rd! The homeroom, in each grade level, with the highest number of Box Tops collected will get a prize for each student to take home with them. Winning classes will be announced in the October 27th Newsletter. Also, the class (in each grade level) that raises the most box tops will receive a portion of the total amount raised back to their homeroom teacher for supplemental supply purchases.
