A Message from Proud Principal, Laura Clark

What a fun filled week we have had at Parsons! Our students and staff really showed their support of making healthy choices for Red Ribbon Week. Each day had a theme with a strong message that our students will carry with them. Yes, our primary focus is teaching & learning and this week we had a little fun with it as a school. Flash Foward Day, Bright Future Day, Twin Day, Positive Book Character Day and Follow Your Dreams with PJs were a blast! My personal favorite was seeing students, and staff, dressed up as their favorite book characters. It is the moments like these that I walk the halls of our school and take in the important role we have as a school community. We teach the whole child!

As most of you probably heard, the strong winds Thursday caused a power outage at our school. The back up generators quickly went into action but the lights were definitely a little dimmer. As the assistant principals and I walked the hallways checking in on classrooms, a cute little first grader asked me, "Did you turn off the school lights as a TRICK?". I couldn't help but laugh. Only in an elementary school does the power go out on Book Character Day which also happened to be Halloween. I am proud to say that even during the outage our staff and students continued with their day. What PRIDE!

Have a wonderful weekend with your kiddos making memories!

Proud to be your Principal,

Mrs. Clark

Afternoon Transportation

All transportation changes must be made in writing.Whenever you need to make a change to your child's afternoon transportation plan, please complete an Afternoon Transportation Change Form, which can be found here https://www.gcpsk12.org/Page/11429 or on our school's website, and send it in to your child's teacher. We will utilize this form to create the appropriate afternoon transportation pass. Please remember the GCPS Bus Rule: No passes will be issued for play dates, birthdays, weekend sleepovers, etc. For security reasons we DO NOT accept transportation changes through phone calls or emails.

New! RBES Parent Survey in Parent Portal

Yes, this is the second parent survey this year. This survey is very important and we need you!

Great things are happening at Parsons. This survey gives us the opportunity to show our Parsons Pride and share our perception of all the wonderful things our school community is doing for our students. Our school success is evidence of the power collaboration among stakeholders...because we ALL work together, Parsons' students are 'Achieving and Believing'!

Each year, GCPS gives parents the opportunity to complete a survey about their child's school. This survey is available through the parent portal. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey by November 22, 2019. The results are utilized as part of our school evaluation at the county level and we appreciate your input. If you do not have access to the parent portal, you can come to the school and complete the survey by picking up a paper copy in the front office. Thank you in advance for completing this important task. Please visit the parent portal to begin the survey.

Student Checkout

Anyone checking out a child must present photo identification and be listed in our system as someone able to have access to the student. If you need to make changes to your list of approved emergency contacts, you may make changes on the Parent Portal or stop by the office to update this information. As a reminder, students may NOT be checked out after 3:00 PM.

For assistance in updating contact information on the parent portal, please visit https://www.gcpsk12.org/Page/11430.

Car Rider Reminders

Car Rider Parents - We are seeing an uptick of late arrivals after the 8:50 am bell has rung. Please remember that once the 8:50 bell rings, our car rider staff come inside and you must take your students to the front office and check them in as tardy. Please do not let your students get out of the car if our staff members are already entering the building. This is a safety concern. We also ask that you do not let your student out unless one of our staff members have come to your car or motioned to get out of the car. It is a policy that they do not get out of the car until the car is past the yellow line point on the sidewalk.

Also- the car rider line starts at the far driveway of the school. Do not cut through the front parking lot and cut the line of the car riders. The front parking lot is for Pre K parents drop off and buses only. Thank you so much for your assistance with this.

Join the Girls Who Code club!

Girls in grades 3rd-5th have the opportunity to join this after school club. The club will meet on Tuesdays after school until 4:30 pm (November 12th-February 4th). Forms are due back by November 4th.
