Cheatham Family Organization News
February 2021 - Volume 3
A Message from your President
Greetings Cheatham Family Members,
I wanted to take this opportunity to send love and blessings to you and your family as we once again enter another year of potential and possibilities!
We are all aware that 2020 held challenges we have never seen before. Many family members, churches, businesses, and governmental entities worldwide have been impacted due to the global pandemic. As the pandemic continues to roam our nation, it can leave us all with a level of fatigue and mental anguish that can seem to linger for days ahead. However, I want to encourage you to remain strong individually and as a family unit.
The Bible says in Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. As we come to the end of February 2021 and look to enter March, we can still feel a level of hopelessness at times. I ask that we remove those thoughts away and move further into this year with optimism about the things that lie ahead and acknowledge that our Lord will lead and guide us.
We are the proud descendants of Henry and Amy Cheatham. We know our ancestors went through hard times and tribulations, but they held on to God's unchaining hand. Let's follow their lead and continue to trust in God today and forevermore.
Take some time to review the Cheatham Family website at www.thecheathamfamily.tribalpages.com and give thanks for our awesome family.
Again, I thank God for each of you!
Your Humble President,
Karen Barnes
Due to the continued global pandemic, we have decided to have a VIRTUAL Family Reunion this summer. Please see the Save the Date Flyer below for the Reunion Dates. Additional details will follow soon. This reunion will be FREE of charge. We want all family members to participate. This will be an event you don't want to miss!
We WILL have an IN-PERSON reunion in 2022.
Here are a few updates on our Cheatham Family Organization top initiatives:
1. Cheatham Family Round-Up
This initiative is an action item. As you know, we have worked tirelessly to update our current contact information for all family members. Ensuring we have your current contact information will allow us to inform you of all upcoming events. To confirm your contact information, please reach out to your chapter president. You can find your local chapter president's contact information at the bottom of the newsletter for your convenience.
2. Preserve Family Land and Cemetery
During our last conference call, we shared our accomplishment to locate one of Henry Cheatham's siblings, Susan Choyce, who still owns land in Cass County near the Cheatham Cemetery. Because the land is still listed under Susan's name, we can conclude that one of Susan's descendants is preserving the land on her behalf. Karen Rogers, Cheatham Historian, and I are working on locating the descendants. Additionally, we are continuing to seek the cemetery as a historic landmark. Attaining the address last year was a significant first step toward our goal of preserving the final resting place for many of our ancestors.
3. Cheatham Family Reunion Organization Exploratory Committee
During our August 2019 family reunion, it was expressed by many family members to explore additional locations and activity options for upcoming family reunions. While we love our current reunion format, other locations and activities could significantly enhance our reunions. We created the Cheatham Family Reunion Exploratory Committee, chaired by D'Ante Tillis, who was able to take all documented suggestions from all family members who provided their voice from several collaboration platforms. This information was provided to the local Cheatham Chapter Presidents to utilize for reunion suggestions in the future. Thank you so much for providing your voice to this committee.
