Monroe Memo 8/18/2020
Mrs. Reingruber's Weekly Update
Select TRANSLATE NEWSLETTER at the top of the screen and select your language.
I hope you are staying safe and healthy while enjoying what is left of your summer. Everyone at Monroe is excited to hear all about your remote learning and summer adventures once school resumes on Tuesday, September 8th!
At this point in time, our Board of Education has approved our D181 Reopening Plan, which consists of a hybrid AM/PM model and full parallel remote learning option. Thank you for participating in the D181 survey that was sent late last week to express your model preference. This will allow us to continue planning the best possible path forward for educating our children, while prioritizing the safety for all involved.
Our plan at this time is to communicate AM/PM placements to parents by next Tuesday, August 25th. We are working to ensure AM/PM placement consistency for siblings both within and across D181 schools. While we always try our best to accommodate our parents, there is not an opportunity to request a specific AM/PM placement at this time. Additional information regarding back to school procedures, safety protocols, and classroom/teacher assignments will be communicated prior to the start of the school year.
Going forward, I plan to send my updates through the PTO's Newsbytes email. The PTO plans to start regular publication of Newsbytes on Sunday, August 23rd.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. We look forward to safely reconnecting with you and your child in the near future!
Your partner in education,
Mrs. Kristin Reingruber
Monroe School Principal
1st-3rd Grade iPad Return to be held Friday, August 21st
IPAD RETURN INFORMATION ONLY PERTAINS TO INCOMING 1ST - 3RD GRADE STUDENTS
In order to prepare for the start of the school year, we need to collect the iPad that our incoming 1st - 3rd grade students used for remote learning this past spring. This will allow us to clean and reconfigure the devices for the 2020-21 school year. Please return your District 181 iPad in the following manner:
- Place the iPad in a one-gallon ziplock bag
- Place the iPad charging cable and charging brick in the same bag
- Put a note IN the bag with your child's first and last name on it
Families should drive into the Monroe School parking lot on Friday, August 21st between 9am-11am and follow the traffic pattern toward the main entrance. As you arrive, please open your trunk or window for our volunteers to retrieve the bag containing the iPad, charging cable, and charging brick. Please be sure you include a note with your child's FIRST AND LAST name.

We ask that you please display your child's first and last name and grade in your passenger side vehicle window. As you arrive, please open your trunk or side door for our volunteers to place the kits safely inside your vehicle.

Selecting a Mask
You have many choices available when selecting a mask for your child to wear at school. As a mother myself, I know I will be sending our son to school with MULTIPLE masks each day to ensure he always has mask available that is both clean and dry!
The information below was shared by the CDC regarding safe and appropriate mask choices. I have included a key piece of information below that may be helpful as you select a mask for your child to wear to school:
- The purpose of masks is to keep respiratory droplets from reaching others to aid with source control. However, masks with one-way valves or vents allow air to be exhaled through a hole in the material, which can result in expelled respiratory droplets that can reach others. This type of mask does not prevent the person wearing the mask from transmitting COVID-19 to others. Therefore, CDC does not recommend using masks for source control if they have an exhalation valve or vent.
- Please follow the link for more guidance on cloth face coverings from the CDC https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cloth-face-cover-guidance.html
Additionally, the graphic below provides great safety reminders for how to safely wear and remove your mask. Please take some time to talk to your child about these practices. We will also be reviewing safety protocols with your child when they return to school.

Fall 2020 Virtual Chess-Ed Enrichment
In response to COVID, and our commitment to continuing to provide Monroe students with a quality chess enrichment program during this uncertain time, Chess-Ed is pleased to offer VIRTUAL chess lessons to your child this Fall!
The 10-week Fall session is offered Monday through Friday at a variety of times (4, 5, and 6 pm) with Beginner, Novice, Continuing, and Advanced program levels. While students are welcome to register for class on any weekday, Chess-Ed will strive to keep together those Monroe students who register for class on Tuesdays.
The chess program runs from Monday, 9/14/20 to Friday, 11/20/20 and is taught by Chess-Ed instructors using Zoom, lichess.org, and other chess software. Please refer to the Eventbee registration site for chess level guidelines. To register, students must have a FREE username at lichess.org so they can be paired by the chess instructor during the game playing portion of the lesson.
Be sure to register early to take advantage of EARLY FEE pricing. For more information about the program, please refer to the program flyer below or the Eventbee website.
Chess-Ed is looking forward to seeing your CHESS ENTHUSIAST this Fall!
