Important Information
Wednesday and Thursday-Middle School Tours
We will be doing our middle schools tours Wednesday (South) and Thursday (North). Please make sure you have returned the permission slip sent home last week or your child will not be able to leave campus and attend the tour.
Friday- My Future Story Week
This week is My Future Story Week 2017. Students will take time during morning meeting to research different careers they are interested in and what path they need to take either through college, apprenticeship, or technical training in order to achieve that job or career. Students may dress for their future career or wear their favorite college t-shirt on Friday and walk the the parade of careers. We will also have guest speakers come on Friday to talk about their careers.
Student Interns
Our interns will be wrapping up their time with us next week. To show our appreciation, we will have baskets to put notes, letters, or "teacher goodies" in. If you would like to send some type of school supply/teacher goodie or have your child write a note, draw a picture, etc; we will be secretly collecting them and giving the baskets to our interns next Tuesday!

Math, Science, and Social Studies
Math-This week students will complete the decimal module. We will complete the final lesson on Monday. Students will review for a module decimal test on Tuesday and Wednesday, covering all the skills learned during this module. The decimal test will be on Thursday. We will begin our final module on measurement on Friday and work on it for the remainder of the school year.
Great math websites students can work on at home:
www.zearn.org (students know their login information and it's a class favorite)
www.frontrowed.com (Curtright: yq2jji and Foster: nacfwn)
www.sumdog.com (most students remember their logins from last year, but they can make their own account free of charge)
Students will be able to access Zearn and Front Row throughout the summer with their current logins. This will be great practice to keep up math skills through summer break.
Science-We will begin working on the Down the Drain unit this week. Students will focus on water conservation and ways they can conserve water. We will also take time this week to research and watch videos on renewable and non-renewable resources.
Reading, Writing, Vocab and Word Study
Reading--We will be doing a variety of reading activities this week. We will be reading about The Secret Life of Grown-Ups, we will be testing our reading comprehension on Edulastic, we will be checking fluency with accuracy checks, and we will be reading independently daily.
Writing--In Writing, we will be focusing on Author Fair. Students have selected an author to research. We will be researching in class, and students are welcome to research at home as well. This week we will be focusing on creating PowerPoint presentations to share information about our authors. At the end of the week we will begin planning our posters. I have posterboard available for students, but if they want a certain color/pattern, it will need to be purchased on their own. Starting NEXT Monday we will be working on posters in class. If students want to bring things to decorate their poster that is fine.
