Gooding Community Newsletter Enters Its 4th Year!
We would like to thank our wonderful community for the contributions to our newsletter. Without the contributions from you this newsletter wouldn't be possible. Thank you to Colin Smith for creating the newsletter 4 years ago. Without his inspiration to communicate all of the great things happening in our community we wouldn't have this wonderful tool to share the events.
Please keep sharing the newsletter and continue to send in your news and happenings!

Changes at the Gooding City Tree & Brush Yard
(Pending City Council Approval)
The Gooding Tree and Brush Yard will open from April 1st to November 13th, with some changes. The Tree yard funding source was moved from the Streets Department budget to the Sanitation Department budget on October 1, 2020. In order to control operating costs and prolong the life of the tree grinder it has become necessary to eliminate the “non yard waste” from the list of acceptable materials. Efforts to reduce the cost of operation over the last couple years included giving access to the yard based on the honor system. Unfortunately the amount of items arriving had metals, plastics and other non-wood still attached. This has caused an increase in repairs and will ultimately shorten the lifespan of the grinder. In addition, several incidents involving the illegal dumping of household garbage occurred last year. A huge thank you to the community for their support in bringing it to our attention quickly so that a couple of them could be identified. This year the facility will only be open when it can be staffed. Pallets, Boards, trees, etc. can be taken to the Wendell Transfer Station.

Removal of Junk
Spring is almost here and now is the time to start getting our yards prepped for the summer. A big part of this is the removal of junk and excess materials, appliances, and vehicles from yards. A Gooding tow truck operator has been busy advertising the removal of such junk vehicle at no cost, and might even pay for certain vehicles. You can find his post on Gooding News Share and other community Facebook pages. This is a much cheaper alternative rather than have the City and Police take action to clear junk vehicles that do not comply with City Code. If you wish to keep dismantled, junked, inoperable, or unregistered vehicles, they must not be visible from the street or surrounding properties. To accomplish this, they must be behind a solid fence or inside an enclosed building. Other junk should be disposed of accordingly such as appliances to a recycler or to the transfer station for a minimal fee.

New Street Signs for Gooding!
We Need Your Ideas!
The City will be planning an open house in April for our local BMX enthusiasts to give their input on possible design ideas for the new park we are trying to create adjacent to the existing Duke Morton Memorial Skate park. This is a real opportunity to share ideas and shape what could become an icon in the Magic Valley for Riders and Skaters. This project will be phased as funding allows. Stay tuned next month for more details about the upcoming open house. If you would like to be part of this committee please contact City Hall (208) 934-5669.
