Crosswalk Laws From the Michigan Legislature

I was visited recently by a Deputy from the Macomb County Sheriff's Department. The Deputy hi-lighted several items of concern (see below) and asked that I convey the information to our school community. They will be monitoring our school crosswalks, especially the Tilch and Goldridge crosswalk, due to concern over violations in the Michigan Vehicle Code.

A person who violates this section is responsible for a civil infraction.

A vehicle shall not be parked, except if necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the law or the directions of a police officer or traffic control device, in any of the following places:

(a) On a sidewalk

(b) In front of a private or public driveway

(c) Within an intersection

(d) Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant

(e) On a crosswalk

(f) Within 20 feet of a crosswalk

(g) Within 30 feet of a stop sign
